This Term we focus on

SAYING NO!

We have been looking at LEGAL DRUGS like

Medicines

If you have ever been sick and had to take medicine then you know about LEGAL medicines. Doctors are allowed to prescribe them for patients, stores can sell them and people can buy them.

 

We have also been looking at ILLEGAL DRUGS.

The usually mean using drugs that are not allowed. Illegal drugs aren't good for anyone, but they are particularly bad for kids or teens who's body is still growing. They can damage the heart, brain and other organs. They can also affect school, sporting and friendships. People can do dangerous and silly things that could hurt them- or other people-when they use drugs.

 

We have been learning a DRUG BUSTER song to the tune of the

Original GhostBusters Theme Song.

At the beginning of our school year we decided as a class what behaviour and guidelines we would like our classroom to have. We had a class discussion and came up with many amazing ideas. These ideas then became the focus of what we call OUR CLASS EXPECTATIONS. Each member of the class chose their own personal idea and then decorated it for our classroom.  When it was finished we signed an agreement stating that we would try to follow our expectations in our classroom. Here are our class expectations.

We have been looking at various things in this subject.  Some weeks we look at social skills like bucket filling, Beautiful Oops and changing our mind set. You can see photos of these in the "have you filled your bucket?" section of the webpage.

 

Some of the other lessons have been focused on our earth's bucket and what we are doing to it. Are we dipping or filling?

So we started with Carbon Footprints.

We watched a video on youtube called Carbon Monster which helped us to understand what a carbon footprint is, and how we can increase or shrink it by what we do everyday.

 

Our footprints are actually on the ceiling of our classroom. The ones in green are ways we can shrink our footprints by reducing our electricity use, walking short distances, saving water and recycling. Unfortunately, the orange ones are carbon monsters! They are ways we increase our carbon footprint like driving everywhere, wasting water, having many televisions on at the same time and wasting paper.  

Sportsmanship

 

We have been spending some time in class, to develop a better understanding of what good sportsmanship looks like. Many of us could say what it was but when it came to demonstrating it we were a little lost. We decided that our class challenge is to show good sportsman ship  on the playground and in the classroom. So when our new class councillor was announced everyone showed good sportsmanship by congratulating them. The candidates that missed out took the loss in their stride and shared their joy for the winner. This was a great demonstration of GOOD sportsmanship.

 

I wonder how many things you can think of that would be considered GOOD sportsmanship?

As the next step of our journey continues with looking at the Earth's bucket, we start looking at water conservation. Today we watched 2 clips from youtube about water and how we can make better choices to make sure we are not wasting it. After watching we created posters about water conservation and painted some raindrops to make our very own water display.
