The Road to Wembley - Saturday 18th November

Chingford C of E boys' football team gallantly fell at the last hurdle in an attempt to represent Leyton Orient in the National League's Road to Wembley competition held at 'Score" on Saturday, 18th November.

Having won their group stage without conceding a goal and beating St Mary's on penalties in a hard fought semi-final, the boys lost in the final 2-0 to Churchfields.

As finalists, the boys later took to the pitch at Brisbane Road to act as flag bearers and a guard of honour as the O's players ran out onto the pitch against Dover Athletic.

Although the boys were disappointed not to go onto the next stage of the competition, they had a wonderful day out and once again showed they are among the best teams in the Borough.

Week Commencing 31/10/2016

In School Games this week, Year 5/6 Netball training sessions ended. Later in the academic year, teams will be selected for the tournament and the Sports Leaders from Chingford Foundation have promised to  to do some more training before then. We are very lucky to have these links with past pupils!

The current Fencing Club is running successfully on both sites and, due to popular demand, David the coach, will return in the Spring term - letters to express interest have been emailed so get your replies back!

This month we have year 4 Netball and a Year 5 Borough sports day as well as the Boys' Football League on Mondays at Goals.

In sport this week, we are delighted to announce that our school has retained the Gold School Games Mark recognising all of the potting events we take part in throughout the year.

In Cross Country there was a first for Chingford C of E, both girls and boys A teams placing 1st amongst all the schools in Waltham Forest and many from Essex too. Gold medals all round. The B teams and reserves also ran fantastically, with many achieving personal bests. On top of that a huge congratulations to Stephanie Letchford (year 5) who placed second out of a field of 250 girls. Jack Baker (year 6) who came 5th and Luke Howlett (Year 5) who came 9th out of a field of 256 boys. We are so proud of you all. A special thanks goes to the parents who prepared the children in running club and continued to support and encourage the children on the day.

This week, the girls played their last league match for now at Goals. On Tuesday, 16 year 4 children took part in a rugby festival at Chingford Foundation school in a new event led by year 10 Sports Leaders.

Our boys 1st team won, beating Handsworth in the final by 1 point😃.
Both teams won 2 games each, but our A team scored 34 points and Handsworth had 33. They now go on to the borough finals at Lammas school on 8th November.

On Wednesday, the netball training continued with an excellent turn out of 5 schools in our playground.

Week Commencing 10/10/2016

This week saw the start of a 3 week netball training league take place on the KS2 site. Eighteen year 5 and 6 children took part in matches against Normanhurst, Parkside, longshaw and Larkswood schools. The children played fantastically well and christened our brand new netball posts! It has been great to see the children using these at playtimes also.

The Girls' football team continued their league at Goals. Well done A team who won both matches and are top of the league! The B team lost both matches but Mr Winspear, their coach, has reported that they all continue to gain confidence.

Running club concluded this week and the bi-annual Borough Cross Country race will take place at Chingford Plains on Saturday morning at 10am. Good luck to the runners!

Next week, we are looking forward to the last Girls' football match in the league for a while before the Boys' starts after half term. Girls will still train on Mondays though! The Table Tennis competition also takes place at Chingford Foundation school on Monday after school.
