Boys’ 5 a-side football team just miss out

The boys’ Year 5/6 football team suffered the heartbreak of losing on penalties to St John the Baptist Primary in the quarter final of the Qualiteach Cup held at ‘Goals’ today.

Following wins against Mission Grove, Halley House, Mayflower and Stroud Green in the group stage which saw them top their group, hopes were high that the team would proceed to the semi finals due to be held later in the season at the Breyer Group Stadium, home of Leyton Orient where four teams will fight it out on the pitch before an 0’s home game.

A tight, enthralling game against St John’s ended 0-0 with the referee signalling the game would be decided by the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Sadly, C of E were beaten 2-1 on penalties and the disconsolate boys had to come to terms with the fact that their dreams of playing at a football league stadium had come to an end.

Despite the disappointment, the boys played brilliantly throughout the tournament displaying great skill, camaraderie and sportsmanship. Well done boys, the school is proud of you!
