Wonderful women for Mother's Day
Fri 08 Mar 2024As today was International Women's Day, it made it doubly special for Reception to be able to invite a wonderful woman from their life, to accompany them for a cuppa and cake, in the infant hall today. They also got to take part in some activities together as part of our celebrations ahead of Mothering Sunday.
Mother's Day in the UK has its origins in the 16th century custom of 'Mothering Sunday', which fell on the fourth Sunday of Lent. That's three Sundays before Easter.
During the Middle Ages, the custom developed of allowing people who had moved away from where they grew up to come back to visit their home or 'mother' churches, and their mothers, on the fourth Sunday of the Christian festival of Lent.
We wish all the wonderful women in our lives a very Happy Mother's day and a great big thank you for being part of growing and supporting us.

World Book Day 2024
Thu 07 Mar 2024We had a fantastic day together celebrating International World Book. The children and staff could either dress a book character, bring in their favourite book, write a book review of a book they have enjoyed to share with everyone, or write a blurb to recommend a book that has touched their lives.
Highlights of the day were Y6, who recognising it was their last primary school World Book Day, really pushed the boat out with their costumes! Indie, in Y5B who came dressed as her mother, who is the published author of, "How to Stop Spending Money You don't have on Clothes you don't Wear" by Jodie Gillary, and Ella in Y4B, who self-published her own book with the help of Sue, our artist in residence and the front office!
The staff team put on a united front with most dressing as a character from the Mr Men and Little Miss series by Roger Hargreaves!
The newly hatched chicks from Reception loved the day too!

Mascots!
Sat 17 Feb 2024During the half term break two pupils from Y4 had the opportunity to be mascots at Arsenal. Here’s the link to the game on Saturday:https://youtu.be/ZnvAndwjPug It was a record sell- out for the first time ever for a woman’s game at the Emirates. They won 3:1 which was a bitter-sweet result for Lulu's mum, who is a United fan!
Lulu and Bella had an awesome day and the club really looked after them!

Cultural day
Wed 07 Feb 2024We hosted our annual ‘Cultural Day’ on Wednesday 7th February. On this special day, children took part in a range of activities that enabled them to embrace their own heritage and learn about a range of alternative cultures.
The day was a non-uniform day as the children were encouraged to wear any traditional clothes that they had at home to represent their family heritage. This year, we combined our ‘Cultural day’ with ‘World read aloud day’ so we also encouraged children to bring in a cultural book to share with their class.
A highlight of our ‘Cultural day’ over the last few years has been having our fabulous parent/carer volunteers in to read or present something about their heritage to their child’s class. This year, we extended their involvement even further. Thank you to all the parents/carers who came to school and read stories, taught a traditional dance, gave a presentation, demonstrated traditional cooking/taste testing, art or language teaching. You were wonderful! The children learnt so much and had a really informative day!

Rights Respecting councillors visit the Town hall!
Fri 26 Jan 2024On Friday the 26th of January 18 RRS school councillors got the opportunity to go to our local Town hall and visit the Mayor of Waltham Forest , Roy Berg . Once they arrived they were accompanied by Lauren, the Mayor’s assistant who escorted them to the chamber where they met the Mayor. After the lovely chat with Mayor Berg the RRS councillors asked a few questions about what is involved in being the Mayor. We also found out that the Mayors charity this year is to raise awareness of ex-servicemen and what the community can do to help them.
Emma said ’I enjoyed the trip as it was very interesting and the people were lovely. My favourite bit was meeting the Mayor.’ Zhion liked finding out that the Mayor has his own office and a personal rest room!
The Mayor also told the councillors that he is very proud of being an ex Chingford CofE pupil! Who knows.....in the future one of these councillors might follow in Roy's footsteps!

Y1 visited the Transport Museum in Covent Garden!
Fri 19 Jan 2024London Transport Museum is one of the main visitor attractions in Covent Garden Piazza. Bringing to life the history of London’s public transport network — its buses, trains, tubes and taxis, from the 19th century to the present day, the Museum appeals to young people and adults alike. Our Y1 classes had a lovely time exploring the museum. With an emphasis on interactivity, the exhibits range from impressive historic vehicles to striking examples of the transport network’s famous poster art and graphic design.
Transport has played a defining role in the evolution of London’s unique identity. From the days of sedan chairs and horse-drawn omnibuses through to the world’s first underground railway and the creation of iconic designs such as the roundel and Tube map, the Museum’s colourful displays offer fascinating insights into how London works.
The lively exhibitions explore over 200 years of history and reveal compelling stories about the influence transport has on London’s society and culture, and how our travel experiences might change in the future. At the heart of the story are the people that have kept London moving over the centuries – Victorian pioneers, the avant-garde designers of the early 20th century and the many thousands of transport workers, including those recruited from overseas during the 1950s and 1960s.
The children must be commended for their excellent behaviour on the trip.
