Mathmaticians Take Up Challenge
During November over 30 Year 6 pupils took part in the Mathematics Association's 'Primary Maths Challenge'. Jack Page and Amy Thomson who took part in the challenge both agreed the test was extremely difficult. Jack described the test as 'the hardest thing he's done at school' while Amy said, 'Some parts of the test were harder than others.' Miss Roberts organises the test to give competent mathematicians a chance to stretch themselves to see how good they are. Here's an example of one of the questions. Why not try it yourself to see how clever your are?
A car, badly designed by a Year 4 pupil, has square wheels with sides 25cm long. How many times will the wheels of this car turn right round if it travels 1 km without any slipping?
A 1000 B 2000 C 4000 D 10000 E 40000
Out of 34 pupils who took part in the Challenge 9 pupils received a bronze certificate, 5 achieved silver, and only one pupil, Fred Tyrrell, achieved gold.
Assistant Headteacher, Miss Roberts, was pleased with the performance saying it was one of our best ever.
