On Thursday 26th of May, children from years 3,4,5 and 6 represented the school in four different track and field events. Quad kids is an annual borough competition held over 3 days with lots of different schools competing, we have yet to have the results but will update you when we do. The children were fantastic, pushing themselves to their limits. The event organiser also commented on the excellent behaviour and respect shown by Chingford C of E children. Many thanks to parents, staff and Orion Harriers for all their support throughout this competition.

Some lucky pupils managed to catch a projected view of Mercury’s recent transit across the Sun using a telescope and a safe method of viewing the sun called projection. Our LSA, Mrs Rowland, a keen astronomer, brought her telescope into school so that children could view this rare event. The little planet will not transit again until 2019 and then in 2032.

 

Keen Year 5 astronomer, Eddie Adams,  got to see the projected image of Mercury crossing the surface of the Sun. “It was awesome,” said Eddie, “I could see a tiny black speck going across the Sun – it is something I will always remember.”

 

Safety note: To avoid damaging your eyes never look directly at the sun with the naked eye or when using an optical instrument such as a telescope or binoculars.

The Year 6 children who have not gone to the Isle Of Wight have been enjoying a week of trips to some of London's most historic landmarks.

 

On Monday 16th May the children visited Tower Bridge taking in the breath- taking but somewhat giddy walk across the glass walkway high above the road. They also visited the Tower Bridge Exhibition which gives insights into the history of the Bridge and how it was constructed.

 

Next on the agenda was a visit to the Natural History Museum where, as you would expect, the dinosaurs stole the show.

 

For the next visit the children headed  out east for a trip to the top of The Orbit which is adjacent to the Olympic Stadium. The children also had the  opportunity to look around the Park and enjoy its facilities.

 

The final visit of the week was along London's South Bank incorporating a ride on the London Eye.

 

 

The 6-a-side football team from the Chingford Church of England Primary School suffered the heartache of being knocked out at the semi-final stage of The Premier League’s 2016 School’s Tournament which took place at Goodison Park, the home of Everton FC on Tuesday (May 17^th)

Deputy Head, Ian Osborne said, “I was so proud of the children, it’s such a fantastic achievement and it speaks volumes for their talent and application to have done so well. They were well behaved and certainly had a day that they will remember all their lives, I know I will!”

The boys were representing Tottenham Hotspur, played in the club’s colours and travelled to Liverpool in the state of the art team coach that is more often used for ferrying the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli to matches up and down the country.

On the famous Everton pitch the boys reached the last four by defeating teams representing Bournemouth, Chelsea and Arsenal, with David Harris scoring four goals in the group stage.

Captain Jedd Coster thought: “It was amazing to get to play at a Premier League Stadium and I’ll never forget the feeling when we won our group and went through to the semi-finals.”

In a pulsating semi-final encounter watched by an enthusiastic crowd, Pat Bacon had rattled the crossbar with a fine headed effort only for the Chingford team to be defeated by Crystal Palace by two goals to nil.

Coach David Bloomfield said, “There were tears come the final whistle, but very quickly everyone started to take on board just how well the boys had done to get to the last four. Naturally there was disappointment but we knew that the semi-final had been a great game, which softens the blow, if only a little.”

Parent Tony Bacon who had travelled up to see his son in action added, “It was a fantastic day from start to finish, the children were so excited it was untrue, but I think us parents were even more nervous!

“I felt for the boys in the semi, they had put so much into it, but it was great to take part; it was all very well organised by the school, Spurs and The Premier League and on behalf of the parents and those that went to Liverpool, I would like to say a big thank-you.”

The defiant and unbowed Deputy Head issued a warning that his team will be back when he added, “I am already dreaming about our chances in 2017; I am really optimistic as our next crop of youngsters are showing a lot of promise.”

Swansea City lifted the trophy on the podium after a narrow victory over Crystal Palace in the final.

It has been a nail biting day! CCofE were playing as Spurs at Goodison Park up in Liverpool. The results were coming in thick and fast; Spurs 2, Bournemouth 1 (David Harris scored 2 goals) then Spurs 1 Arsenal 0 (David again!) then Spurs 0 Newcastle 1 but we were through to the semi-final! We lost the semi final to Crystal Palace but Mr Osborne reports that it was a thrilling final and he is very proud of the whole team. Well done all of you!
