Year 3 - Allotment
On Friday 13th November 2026, Year 3 will visit the local allotment. Year 3 usually visit the allotment three times a year. It offers children a fantastic, hands-on way to connect with nature. It also provides crucial physical and mental health benefits.
We will look at the vegetables that have been recently harvested such as the bright yellow pumpkins, onions and potatoes.
We will talk about the different plants we will see and also observe some smaller garden visitors (bug hunting!).
What to wear: Wellies or old trainers. Please bring these to school in a bag so the children can change before they leave.
3 Bowie 9.30am – 11.30am
3 Potter 1.00pm – 2.30pm
Understanding Food: Children discover where their food comes from, making them much more likely to try and enjoy eating fresh vegetables and fruit.
Physical Health: Digging, carrying, and planting offer great exercise, help build motor skills, and ensure exposure to natural sunlight and fresh air.
Mental Well-being: The outdoors is naturally calming, which helps children recharge, and boosts self-esteem as they see their crops thrive.
Wildlife Education: Allotments act as miniature nature reserves. Children can observe ecosystems firsthand—from pollinating bees and butterflies to the birds and worms.
Patience and Responsibility: Watering and tending to plants teaches the value of routine and patience.
We will need volunteers to help on this trip. Please fill out the volunteer form if you are able to help. The office will contact you to confirm. Thank you.
