Enrichment

Forest school

Forest school is an inspirational, child-centred learning process that offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop their confidences and self-esteem, through hands-on learning experiences in a natural environment. It is a program employed by our school to support our growth mind-set approach, develop play, exploration and supported risk taking in a safe, non-judgemental nurturing environment.

Forest school is a specialised learning approach that sits within, and compliments, the wider context of outdoor education.

At Chingford C of E Primary, we teach Forest School lessons so that the children have a chance to develop a wide range of skills that they wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to do inside the classroom. Often these are bush craft skills, whilst developing an inquisitive, caring attitude towards the natural world. We endeavour, that through Forest School experiences, to create environmentally conscious citizens for the future.  We also use Forest School lesson as an opportunity to enhance other areas of the curriculum, by providing real life experiences in which to apply their learning. We regularly carry out sciences, geography and art related activities.

We support SEND children by providing opportunities for them to excel/ without written methods of recording their learning and no one correct answer being required.

Sustainability Day

At Chingford C of E we have always recognised the importance of our commitment to sustainability within education. The children have attended a climate conference discussing sustainability within our local area. With this becoming statutory from April 2023, at Chingford C of E we will continue to strive for a better planet.

With this in mind we are planning a sustainability day where all lessons taking place will be done so without the use of electric. The school will endeavour to have an electricity free day to expose the children to the fact that we do not always need a device or screen for education/entertainment purposes.

World Earth Day

Following the need to take better care of the planet due to climate change we have planned to use World Earth Day as an opportunity to tackle some of the pressing issues related to climate change. These opportunities will educate the children on how they can better look after the planet as well as providing the children with the chance to take part in the following activities to better understand the world around them

  • Tree planting/ flower beds
  • Composting/reducing food waste
  • Recycle water bottles to make a hanging planter activity
  • Project Earth Rock

Each class will also learn a song from Project Earth Rock which supports the eco schools programme.
