D&T Mission Statement

"D&T allows children to become resourceful, innovative and enterprising"

At CCOFE, we believe D&T is an important part of the curriculum as it begins to develop and shape children’s knowledge and skills, preparing them for the future. Our intent is to inspire children to become innovative thinkers, who have an appreciation for the product design cycle through ideation, creation and evaluation. We want our children to continue to develop their skills, building resilience, subject knowledge and to nurture creativity.

Design and technology is alternated each term with art, allowing each year group to be given the opportunity to cover the key skills required to enable them to have a solid understanding of mechanisms, structures, textiles and food. Through D&T lessons, children are taught to use a range of appropriate tools safely and accurately, whilst using many different mediums to create their products and systems.

Children need the opportunities to flourish and have a hands on approach to their learning, which is something D&T allows them to do, taking ownership of their product and making improvements where they find necessary. Modifications have been to the D&T curriculum to ensure all children are able to access the activities and tasks, differentiated to meet everyone’s needs. Ensuring children are supported and well equipped when carrying out tasks means we can work through the activities and ensure skills are developed across the years.
