Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is a holy day of reflection and repentance in the Christian faith. Believers observe the day by fasting and receiving ashes in the shape of a cross on their forehead. It also marks the beginning of Lent.
Year 5 were invited by Mother Marilyn to visit the church and learn about Ash Wednesday. Mother taught the children the meaning of, penitence, how the church produces the ash and encouraged the children to explore the changes in the decoration of the church. Finally, she offered the children and adults a blessing in the form of an ash cross on the forehead.
