Mental Health Champions
Following weekly training sessions from members of Red Balloon, 16 Year 5 mental health 'Champions' will shortly begin mentoring Year 4 pupils to encourage them to look after their emotional, physical and dietary wellbeing through a programme known as the 'Champions Challenge’.
Each day, for a period of 6 weeks, Year 4 pupils will be encouraged to record in a wellbeing journal something that was good for their physical health, something that helped their emotional wellbeing and a healthy meal they managed to eat.
Once a week, the journals will be given to our Year 5 'Champions' who will monitor each child's progress offering advice and liaising with teaching staff if necessary.
The programme was kick started during this morning's assembly when the Year 5 'Champions' presented the project to all of our KeyStage 2 pupils.
Year 5 pupil, Thomas, who was interviewed proudly wearing his 'Champions' badge, is very enthusiastic about the 'Champions Challenge'. "I'm excited about this", he said, "I think it's brilliant being able to help others and not just look after ourselves."
