M&G Visit 04.06.2015
Five pupils each from 5R and 5B visited M & G Investments in Laurence Poultney Hill, in the City on 4th June with Mrs Hall and Mrs Smethurst. The visit was part of the Enabling Enterprise program.
The children were split into three teams and their first task was to build a tower made up from the team's shoes. Having done that each team was then told that they had a theoretical sweet shop to run. The teams (having come up with a team name) then had to think of a theme for their shop.
Once the shop name and theme had been decided upon, the teams were asked to think about how they were going to ask the "bank" for a loan. If the "bank manager" was happy with each team's pitch then they were given a "loan" of £20,000. After a little while each team was informed that they had been in business for a year and had to repay their "loan" and inform the "bank" of any profit.
Finally each team had to do a presentation in the auditorium (using a live microphone) to volunteer employees of M & G, plus the adults who had been helping them throughout the day.
Here are some quotes from the children as to what they thought of the day:-
"I was very nervous. I had a great time, also I conquered my fear of talking in front of a crowd." - Lorenzo
"I worked with Steven and Corin and we got the Professional Award. I overcame a phobia of speaking in front of people I don't know."
"... it was a very enjoyable day."
".....we chose a celebrity theme. This went very well, we had a lot of crazy ideas. This boosted my imagination.
At the end of the day the Professional Award was given to Steven, Corin and Sam, the Innovation Award to Molly, Mia, Alec and Jared and the Profit Award to Lorenzo, Mahrosh and Eylsia.
