RRS council visit to Waltham forest Town Hall

This trip was amazing! It started with the bus drive there, which was going perfectly until our bus broke down. Luckily it was just one stop away from our destination so it was only two extra minutes walking.

We waited outside the Town Hall until thankfully Lauren came to save us from the cold. Lauren is the Mayors assistant and she kindly took us up stairs to the debating chamber. Mayor Tony Bell was waiting for us to take our seats. Then he told us what being the Mayor of Waltham Forest was like.

We were very curious so we loaded him with lots of questions. We learnt a lot and we discussed our thoughts about the fact that at present there no seatbelts on public transport buses for children. Lauren is going to send us some emails of people that maybe able to help the RRS council raise this issue further.

Some of the children got to feel the weight of the special chain that the Mayor wears around his neck. Mayor Tony and Lauren took us to the Mayors chamber to see the mace that starts the discussion in the debating chamber.

Then as we were about to leave Mayor Tony took us to see the new garden that is environmentally friendly and we even saw a beautiful sculpture by Henry Moore.

Eloise loved the fact that Mayor Tony showed us lots of facts about the history of Town Hall in a special cabinet

Charlotte liked holding the very heavy chain that had a special crescent on it.

It was really enjoyable and very nice of Mayor Tony and Lauren to show us round town hall.

Report by Charlotte and Eloise.
