We are delighted to announce that the school has been awarded a Silver “Rights Aware” level accreditation for the work that we do at school to ensure that children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. As a Church of England school we have a Christian vision that promotes the philosophy of “Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too." (Philippians 2:4) This inclusive vision permeates every aspect of our school life encouraging excellence, aspiration, care and empathy in all our stakeholders; of looking out not only for our interests, but also the interests of others; in short, of taking care of each other underpins all that we do. A big thank you to Mrs Nicholoau for co-ordinating this work and to the children who spoke to the assessor via zoom. 

To achieve the award, the school was assessed by one of UNICEF's Professional Advisers who looked at the whole school’s rights respecting work.

Achieving Silver: Rights Aware means there is evidence that:

• Our school is explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in its policy, practice and culture.

• Our school promotes knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout the school community.

• Our school is putting into action and developing the plans outlined in our Action Plan for Silver, which we submitted to achieve Bronze: Rights Committed.

• Our school is beginning to see the positive impact of these actions on children and young people, staff, and on the school’s ethos, practice and environment.

• Children and young people are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.
