University of Arts Visit 11.06.2015
On 11th June, five pupils from 4RH and five from 4W visited the University of the Arts, Central St Martins in their new premises in Granary Square, just up the road from Kings Cross station. This was the second of our Enabling Enterprise program visits.
The whole of this area is being redeveloped and Central St Martins how occupies the old granary works. The exterior of the building retains most of its original character and the inside has been sympathetically developed, incorporating the new with the old.
Our ten pupils were split into five teams, working along side pupils from William Tyndale Primary School in Islington. Like the previous Engaging Enterprise session, the teams had to think of a team name. However, this time their brief was to design an interactive structure, suitable for all ages and all weather conditions. To help our teams complete their brief they were taken on a walk around the local vicinity to see what was there already and to gain inspiration.
Once back in the Granary Square building the teams drafted a plan of what they wanted to include around their chosen theme.
At the end of the afternoon each team did a presentation as to why their design should be chosen over the others.
The Fantastic 6 won the Stay Positive Award, Dedicated Designers won the Working as a Team Award, Building Bros won the Sharing Ideas Award and the Avengers won the Imagination Award. The overall winners were Dedicated Designers.
