World War 2 - On the high Seas
Today we had a visit from Mrs Jackie Conway (Emily's Nan). Mrs Conway kindly shared with us the story of her father who was in the Royal Navy during WWII. This was a wonderful experience for the children as they got to look at photo albums, medals, ration books, certificates of proficiency and the handwritten letters he sent to his mother. Amazingly, there was even an unopened WWII first aid field dressing that the children were able to hold and examine. This session was invaluable to our learning, as the passage of time since World War II gets further away, there are less people who have heard first hand (from parents/grandparents) of their loved ones experiences.
