Year 2 visit The Hive

Year 2 had a fantastic day at The Hive, formerly known as Suntrap, in Epping Forest, learning all about the forest habitat and the animals that live there. We learnt about vertebrates and invertebrates in the classroom before venturing out for a forest adventure. We clambered over trees, trudged through the muddy forest floor and splashed along the stream. We went on a minibeast hunt in the microhabitats of the forest and observed the animals carefully to identify them. After that, we made pictures of the animals we found using natural materials found in the forest and talked about their food chains. In the afternoon, we met some of The Hive's incredible residents. We observed and handled giant snails, stick insects, cockroaches, salamanders and finally, Cornflake and Cynthia the corn snakes.
