We experienced all sorts of weather as our Year 4 boys headed to Peter May for their first ever school football tournament!

First up, we faced Longshaw, where the boys showcased their skills and teamwork to secure an impressive 5–0 victory. Next, they took on Dawlish, producing another excellent performance to win 3–0. Our final group stage match was against Chapel End, where the boys continued to impress with a well earned 3–1 win.

Three wins from three matches saw Team C of E finish top of their group and progress to the quarter finals, where they faced a physical George Tomlinson side. Neither team could find a breakthrough in normal time or extra time, so the match went to penalties. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for Team C of E, as George Tomlinson edged the shootout 2–1.

However, the boys weren’t finished yet! They went on to face Gwyn Jones in the fifth to eighth place play-offs, securing another victory before taking on Roger Ascham in the battle for fifth place. Team C of E rose to the challenge once again, claiming a fantastic fifth place finish!

With 17 teams competing, three group stage victories, 18 goals scored, just one goal conceded and not a single defeat during normal playing time, the boys had every reason to be proud. The only team to stop them was the eventual tournament winners, who progressed after a penalty shootout.

A massive well done to Alex, George, Max, Nathan, Ciaran, Jax, Josh and Frank for representing the school so brilliantly. Their determination, sportsmanship and teamwork were outstanding throughout the day.

A special thank you also goes to our two parent coaches, Graham McGee and Mark Butterworth, who generously gave up their time to support Mrs Gillies in coaching the team.

An amazing day, a brilliant team performance and an achievement to be incredibly proud of. Well done, boys!
