Year 6 Celebrate Black History Month: Inspiring Voices, Inspiring Lives
This week a group of Year 6 children, Rowan, Indie, Riya, Aliza, Eloise, Amilie, Cassidy, Reyanna and Sofia, presented a brilliant assembly on Black History Month to the Junior Site. They wrote and rehearsed it independently and presented clearly and confidently on a range of inspirational Black figures.
We heard about Martin Luther King and his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which still inspires people to stand up for fairness and equality today. We learned about Usain Bolt, the fastest man on the planet, who left the rest of the field trailing behind him. We also celebrated Prince, whose amazing songwriting gave us the unforgettable Purple Rain and so much more. Each of them showed what can be achieved with courage, talent and determination.
Mr Hewitt ended the assembly by congratulating the girls and challenging every child and adult present to remember that Black History should be discussed and remembered all year and not limited to a month.
