Farms Not Factories! Pupil calls for responsibly sourced practises to food production
Year 6 pupil, Caspar, presented a challenging PowerPoint assembly yesterday to KS1 & KS2 pupils concerning responsibly sourced foods. Caspar sensitively described to the children some details about factory farming and other inhumane methods of livestock rearing.
Caspar is raising money for the charity, 'Farms Not Factories' and is receiving donations via the school offices. So far he has raised nearly £115!
Caspar commented, 'Animals have beating hearts and emotions just like humans so we should treat them with the upmost care when raising them for food on our plates. I am a meat eater myself but don't want to see animals unduly suffer.'
Caspar is encouraged by the school's 'Meat Free Monday' initiative but is planning to write to Waltham Forest's Catering Service to investigate if their food sourcing is of the highest standard. He has also put up a display near the Junior site sensory room telling of his concerns and desire to bring about change to the world.
