  • Reception visit The Hive!

    Fri 10 May 2024

Reception children loved their school visit on Thursday and even got to hold a snake! The Hive formerly Suntrap Forest Centre is an environmental education hub in the heart of Epping Forest. It provides day and residential visits that are open all year round. The Hive is an innovative environmental education service.

    The Hive Timeline

    • Founded in 1894
    • Originally built as a children’s tuberculosis sanatorium
    • Used as a maternity hospital during the Second World War
    • In the 1950s, temporarily converted into flats for families in need
    • In 1967, the London Borough of Waltham Forest bought the Hive for £500 to create a centre to provide environmental education for every child in the borough

    • In July 2019 a 4.5 million pound redevelopment programme commences with a deadline date of 2020
    •  In 2017, The Suntrap celebrated its 50th anniversary, acknowledgments included a hand-written note of congratulations from Sir David Attenborough
    • In 2022, a new name was given to Suntrap. It is now The Hive.
  • Y2 visit William Morris Gallery E17

    Thu 09 May 2024

The William Morris Gallery is a museum devoted to the life and works of William Morris, an English Arts and Crafts designer and early socialist. It is housed in the Georgian villa that was his childhood home, and it presents the world's largest collection of his work through award-winning displays! Y2 loved their visit and even got to try some print making in the style of William Morris. They were commended by the staff at the museum for their excellent behaviour and manners!

  • It's nearly time for SATs!

    Fri 03 May 2024

This week Y6 have been working exceptionally hard preparing for their SATs.

The week beginning Monday 13th May 2024, pupils in Y6 across the country, will take the key stage 2 (KS2) national curriculum tests – commonly known as SATs.

These tests, alongside teacher assessment of English writing and science, are used to measure school performance and to make sure individual pupils have the support that they need as they move into secondary school.

The tests are  in English grammar, punctuation and spelling, English reading and mathematics. They take place every morning from Monday through to Thursday.

The rest of the junior site have been very quiet and thoughtful whilst the tests take place as the children sit in the shared activity area, so that they don't disrupt the Y6 as they practice ahead of the actual week of testing.  It has been a good practice for everyone! We wish Y6 all the best in the real ones, they have worked so hard and deserve to do well.
