  • Former Pupil Acclaimed Artist Sarah Harvey Visits

    Wed 18 Jun 2014
Former pupil and internationally acclaimed local artist, Sarah Harvey, recently paid a visit to Chingford C of E Primary School to talk to pupils about her time at the school and her career as an artist.

Sarah attended the school in the 1990s before moving onto Davenant Foundation School. She completed her education at Chelsea School of Art and Newcastle University, graduating in 2004.

Since then she has developed a reputation as one of the country’s leading abstract artists focussing largely on oil painted portraits of herself floating in water.

Sarah was full of praise for the school and the positive memories she had of her time there and encouraged the children to pursue their dreams.

Deputy Headteacher, Ian Osborne, who taught Sarah commented,

“It’s great to see former pupils developing their talents. Sarah inspired a lot of children during her visit. Her work is truly outstanding.”

  • Former FA Press Officer Meets Pupils

Former FA Press Officer Meets Pupils

Former FA Press Officer, David Bloomfield, visited Chingford C of E Primary School recently to talk to the children about his experiences working on behalf of the English national football team during the 1990 World Cup finals in Italy. David who was the FA's Press Officer for 15 years, spoke about the excitement of being involved in the world's greatest football tournament and how he rubbed shoulders with stars like Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne, and even got to train with the players. He spoke fondly about the England manager at the time, Bobby Robson, describing the Geordie as being 'a father figure who the players greatly respected'.

David also brought along with him a gold record he received for the part he played in putting together the hit song 'World in Motion' which was recorded by the England Team together with the legendary indie band, New Order. The innovative football song was all David's idea, and through his connections was able to sign up New Order with the song consequently becoming one of the greatest football anthems ever.

David, who lives locally, comes from a footballing family.  His father, Jimmy Blloomfield, played over 200 games for Arsenal and was also a successful manager with Leyton Orient.
