Year 2 Barbican Visit

On Tuesday Year 2 visited the Barbican Centre for another concert with the London Symphony Orchestra, this time presented by the conductor Tim Redmond. The theme was Musical Mechanics. Through this, the children have been learning that making music is a bit like fixing a car - we can take it all apart, identify the problem, improve it and put it back together again. The children sang the songs they had practised at school beautifully and enjoyed jumping in their seats every time they heard the boom of the bass drum during 'The infernal dance of the firebird', composed by Ivor Stravinsky.

Year 5 Barbican Visit

On Monday 18^th March, Year 5 went on an exciting trip to the Barbican theatre to watch the London Symphony Orchestra play a concert. They performed songs about heroes, outlaws and villains like William Tell, Treemonisha, the Sultan from Scheherazade, The Montagues and the Capulets and many more. They also learnt how to do the Hoedown as they learnt about Billy the Kid. Everyone loved the music, but particularly loved bouncing on their chairs during the William Tell Overture, pretending to ride their horses!

Cross Country Race!

On Saturday 16th March after a very rainy week the sun came out and 62 selected runners from CCofE competed in the Cross-Country race on Chingford Plain. We were racing against other primary schools in Waltham Forest. While the sun shone down, the ground was very muddy! Our team did so well!

For the girls, Lulu came 2nd out of 198 runners! The Girls' A team came second overall, missing out on first place by just 1 point!

The boys got the team medal for the quickest 8 runners.

Thank you to all parents/carers and staff who came along to support and a huge thank you to Shona for organising it. It was brilliant to see ex-pupils acting as hares and chasers to support the runners.

It is National Science Week!

National Science Week has been a great success! This year’s theme was ‘Time’ therefore the children considered time in our everyday lives and the world around us. The children have identified the characteristics of a successful scientist and those who have demonstrated many of these traits have been nominated as ‘Scientist of the Week’ and awarded Gold! A number of investigations and activities have taken place throughout the week from constructing and testing parachutes and straw planes; engaging with national live lessons and challenging their observation and curiosity skills through Explorify. In addition to this, the children have been ‘Smashing Stereotypes’ by researching scientists from a range of backgrounds and their achievements - ask your child who they learnt about this week!

Selected Y5 pupils were even lucky enough to be invited to a science fayre at Bancroft’s school. They were wowed by the rocket making and launching; the explosive experience of entering the chemistry lab and, of course, the opportunity to make some glow-in-the-dark slime!

Wonderful women for Mother's Day

As today was International Women's Day, it made it doubly special for Reception to be able to invite a wonderful woman from their life, to accompany them for a cuppa and cake, in the infant hall today. They also got to take part in some activities together as part of our celebrations ahead of Mothering Sunday.

Mother's Day in the UK has its origins in the 16th century custom of 'Mothering Sunday', which fell on the fourth Sunday of Lent. That's three Sundays before Easter.

During the Middle Ages, the custom developed of allowing people who had moved away from where they grew up to come back to visit their home or 'mother' churches, and their mothers, on the fourth Sunday of the Christian festival of Lent.

We wish all the wonderful women in our lives a very Happy Mother's day and a great big thank you for being part of growing and supporting us.

World Book Day 2024

We had a fantastic day together celebrating International World Book. The children and staff could either dress a book character, bring in their favourite book, write a book review of a book they have enjoyed to share with everyone, or write a blurb to recommend a book that has touched their lives.

Highlights of the day were Y6, who recognising it was their last primary school World Book Day, really pushed the boat out with their costumes! Indie, in Y5B who came dressed as her mother, who is the published author of, "How to Stop Spending Money You don't have on Clothes you don't Wear" by Jodie Gillary, and Ella in Y4B, who self-published her own book with the help of Sue, our artist in residence and the front office!

The staff team put on a united front with most dressing as a character from the Mr Men and Little Miss series by Roger Hargreaves!

The newly hatched chicks from Reception loved the day too!
