  • Red Balloon Foundation Christmas Boxes

    Tue 14 Dec 2021

Each term pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 are presented with a box of interactive resources from the Red Balloon Foundation to explore a Christian festival or Holy Day. This week children have been using the Christmas Box to help them understand the Christian roots of the festival.

Two Year 5 students, Jah Kai and Millie, we very enthusiastic about the project. Jah Kai commented, "Personally I found it great fun. My favourite part was making a cross out of Christmas wrapping paper."

Millie added, "It was interesting to find out more about the Nativity. I didn't realise that gift giving at Christmas dates back to the Wise Men who gave Jesus gifts of gold, myrrh and frankincense."

Marnie in Year 3 said,  “I learnt that Jesus is the light of the world so we put up lights to show his light”. She also said,  “Jesus is God’s gift to the world to bring hope, light and happiness to our lives so we give presents so that others may feel that happiness”.

Year 3 class teacher, Mrs Brand, was equally enthusiastic saying, "What a fantastic morning going through the Christmas box. I think it really helped to remind children as to why we began celebrating Christmas and the link to Jesus. I was particularly impressed when asking the children about their favourite Christmas presents."

  • new welcome sign at infant site!

    Fri 10 Dec 2021

Children in Y1 and Y2 worked with local artist, Kat Hall, to produce a wonderful welcome sign in the entrance lobby. The children made the sign using recycled plastic bottles and old CDs and DVDs. The effect is stunning! If you look closely you can see both our mission statement, "Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too" (Philippians 2:4) and our school values: compassion, service, honesty, tenacity, humility and forgiveness.

  • Year 6 'Crossover Club' Celebration Meal

    Thu 09 Dec 2021

The Red Balloon Foundation support our Year 6 secondary school transition arrangements by holding a weekly lunchtime 'Crossover Club' that explores issues and concerns children may have with moving on to the next stage of their education. Each term a cohort of 20 pupils attend the club which culminates in a special meal the children plan for alongside members of the RBF team. The children are given a budget  and then go shopping in Station Road to purchase what they have chosen for their meal. The focus is to provide themselves with healthy food options, and of course, to celebrate the time the group has spent together during the term.

One of this term's 'Crossover Club' members, Kristal, commented, " I really enjoyed the meal and it was super fun going shopping with everyone." Fellow 'Crossover Club' member, Edward, added, " I've really enjoyed my time attending 'Crossover Club'. It has really helped me prepare for the future."

This year Chingford CofE has teamed up with Theydon Christmas Trees to offer an Order-to-Door service, providing you with the highest quality tree that doesn't cost the earth!

For every Christmas Tree purchased from our unique link, £5 will be donated to Chingford CofE, and you will receive a £5 discount.

They are also donating a Real Christmas Tree to the school.

In addition to fighting climate change, when you purchase from Theydon Christmas Trees, you get the benefits of:

Here's how it works - Simply visit Theydon Christmas Trees using this link, and a £5 discount window will appear. Pop your email address in, and you will be sent a £5 voucher.

Then pick the height of the Nordmann Fir tree you desire and make your purchase.

The team at Theydon Christmas Trees will give you a call in the last week of November/first week of December to confirm a delivery date and time that works for you. They will also track all the sales we refer and will donate to the school at the end of December based on the number of sales.

Please don't be afraid to share this email with your friends and family - the more money we can raise for the school, the better!
