  • Mayor of Waltham Forest Visits School

    Fri 14 Jan 2022

Following a visit to the Town Hall by our Rights Respecting School Council to meet the Mayor back in November, Cllr Elizabeth Baptiste, the Worshipful Mayor of Waltham Forest, came to visit the school today to say thank you to the children for supporting the Sickle Cell Society charity which is one of the chosen charities she is supporting during her time in office.

After hearing about sickle cell during their visit to the Town Hall, the councillors thought it would be a good idea to raise funds for the charity by holding a Pyjama Day which duly took place today.

The Mayor, accompanied by fellow local councillors, Cllr Roy Berg and Cllr Emma Best, was delighted to hear that at the time of writing approximately £500 had been raised to support the Sickle Cell Society!

  • Traffic Ambassadors' Campaign attracts attention of ITV News

    Thu 13 Jan 2022

The school's Traffic Ambassadors' campaign to improve road safety outside the Junior site in Cambridge Road attracted the attention of ITV News who sent a reporter and camera operator to report on the situation on the morning of Tuesday, 11th January.

The item was covered in the channel's evening local news slot and attracted a lot of attention from children, parents, local residents and even people from further afield. A viewer from Chadwell Heath contacted the school saying, "I was watching the ITV London news on Tuesday evening and saw the article about the school and how the children were concerned about the effect of the parents parking their cars when so many could easily walk their children to school. I thought the children were absolutely amazing, they were so grown up and mature in the way they were communicating with the motorists."

Year 5 Traffic Ambassador, Tia, commented, "Having the TV news channel cover the story is great because it tells motorists that you shouldn't be endangering lives by parking on double yellow lines and driving too fast outside a school."

Fellow Year 5 Traffic Ambassador, Alice, added, "Getting the TV coverage is  a great way of spreading awareness of the need for common sense when driving or parking outside a school."
