• Summer Holidays begin!

  Today in church, we said "Goodbye" to our Y6 Leavers and wished them all the best for Y7 and beyond! Church was followed by a breakfast back at school for the parents of Y6 pupils and our Y6 pupils. In Church Ms lampard, Headteacher said to the Y6 cohort:

  "Congratulations – you made it- whether you spent the last 7 years here or elsewhere, you made it through 266 PE and music lessons, 1330 English Lessons, Maths Lessons and lunchtimes… unless you were otherwise detained…  2660 Registrations. You made it through 3990 line ups and over 1300 Collective Worships. Congratulations – because you are still standing… and you are about to start one of the most exciting times of your life. Exciting because over the next 6-7 years you get to choose more and more of how your life’s going to turn out. You choose more and more of what subjects you’ll study, what sports you’ll pursue, what kind of friends you’ll have. You’ll choose, what you’ll do after you finish school for good this time, and what kind of person you want to be. And how do you make the most of those choices?

  Make good smaller choices:

  1. Choose to work hard. Whatever way you put those 2 words together, work hard, or hard work, the message is the same – nothing of value will come without it.

  2. Choose to not give up easily. Resilience will get you everywhere. JK Rowling was so poor she couldn’t afford a computer or even the cost of photocopying the draft of the Philosopher’s Stone, so she manually typed out each version to send to publishers. It was rejected over 20 times until finally a small London publisher, gave it a second chance, the rest is multi-million-pounds history.

  3. Choose to listen. You have 2 ears and one mouth for a reason – use your ears twice as much as your mouth. You’ll be surprised at how much you learn.

  4. And above all, choose to be kind. Kindness cost nothing –  it’s what people remember. Winston Churchill said “You can make a living from what you get, but you’ll make a life from what you give.

  Choosing those four little choices will let you have choice in all the big decisions you have to make later on." Ms Lampard went on to say, "It has been our privilege and pleasure to watch you grow to see you change over the time you've been with us. You have been a super year group all the way through school, and you will all always have a space in the heart of CCofE school. As you go forward, remember 

  life is a journey, not a destination, the trail riders of old would refer to life as a series of trails or paths-Sometimes the trail/the path is a happy one, Others times it's blue or sad or difficult. It's the way you ride the trail that counts. So always ride it with effort and ride it with kindness. If you can help someone out along the way, then do so.

   

  And as we believe at school, “Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too."  (Philippians 2:4)

   

  As Shakespeare said, “a friend is someone that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow." Always be that friend.

   

   

  Breakfast was a lovely opportunity for final best wishes and photos.

  

• Y6 leavers' Awards

  This afternoon, we held the Y6 Leavers Awards Ceremony. It was an opportunity to mark them completing their primary school journey.

  We're so proud of each and every one for their hard work and the growth they have demonstrated. Every one received a medal and a certificate to wish them all the best as they move on to secondary school. There were special award winners in different subject areas:

• Y6 Leavers' Play

  Y6 performed a Musical by Andrew Oxspring called Prexit and it was superb! Entertaining, funny and poignant! There wasn't  a parent in the room who didn't identify with "The Nits Blues" and there wasn't a dry eye in the hall when they finished with the song, "The Time I have spent with You" which was all about holding back time;

  "Oh growing means never standing still,

  We've got to keep moving.

  But I promise you this, I never will

  Forget the time I've spent with you."

  

• Football Competition "The Euros"

  To honour the fact UEFA European Women's Championship is happening at the moment, we have run our own Mini Euros competition at lunchtime. 

   

  The UEFA European Women's Championship, also called the UEFA Women's Euro, held every four years and one year after the men's UEFA European Championship first held in 1984, is the main competition in women's association football between national teams of the UEFA confederation.

  Our competition concluded with a tense final between Denmark and and Finland. The winning team was Denmark, with a final score of 3:0! Player of the tournament went to Louis Y6. Huge thanks to the team of pupils who helped organise it every lunch time along with Miss Efreme and Mrs Gillies for organising it!

  

• Mathletics legends!

  By blending intrinsic and extrinsic motivations and rewards, and using best-practice theories of gamified learning, Mathletics keeps students engaged with maths. With fresh activities, challenges and regularly updated content, students will always have something new to learn and fun to do.

  We started this week, with a visit from Brian Dallimore, Education Support Partner at 3P Learning (the company who provide Mathletics), to give out medals to our Mathletics legends! So many of our children have achieved Beyond Legend status!

  

• The "T" Factor or Chingford has Talent!

  This afternoon has all been about the “T” Factor, or Chingford’s Got Talent! After the auditions and the rounds, today was the finals.

• RRSA pupil event at Newport primary

  We went to Newport Primary School to share our good practice with other schools in the borough that are on their Rights Respecting Schools Journey.  Indie, William and Aliza spoke with great confidence and enthusiasm to 30 children and teachers from across the borough.  They spoke about the fact that our school got involved in Outright this year – and invited Sir Ian Duncan Smith in to school to answer questions about our traffic campaign.  The Outright campaign this year was to engage with our changemaker – which we did with great success.  The organisers of Outright have even chosen our work to include in a Powerpoint that has been sent to all M.P.s within parliament. Helen Trivers, the Unicef co-ordinator for London Boroughs was very impressed

  

• The Big Football Day!

  Today, Chingford C of E Primary hosted AFC Leyton for a special one off activity/fun day, called The Big Football Day. They had two lioness legends on site doing meet and greets. They were the England lioness legends,  Fara Williams, the most capped England player of all time (male and female) and Nikita Paris, a Euro 2022 winner with England. There was fun and games, coaching and learning a plenty! 

   AFC Leyton are one of a very limited number of female only football clubs in London and the only one with a pathway from youth through to their first team.

  Leyton FC were approached by the FA and National Lottery to host the event and Chingford CofE was delighted to offer a venue as lots of our girls, past and present, play for AFC Leyton and it is a great opportunity to promote girls football and for local girl players to meet their heroes and have some very special coaching.

  BBC1 breakfast news covered the event live at 7.24, 8.38 and 9.24 if you want to catch it on i-player! BBC Five Live also covered the event! We are very proud to host it! Good luck to England and Wales today!

• Y3 sing Carmen!

  The opera Carmen, written by Georges Bizet, was adapted and directed by Maya Sapone, and performed by a range of local schools along with the Waltham Forest Youth Orchestra, Little choir of Joy and the Young Dudes Guitar Group. Our Y3 children had the pleasure and privilege to be part of it! It was sublime!
