  • Diocesan Adviser praises Year 6 pupils.

    Thu 25 May 2023

Richard Hopkins, the school's Diocesan Adviser, spoke highly of three Year 6 pupils who organised and led today's acts of collective worship at both the Infant and Junior sites. Richard, who was at the Junior site this morning to monitor the school's progress as a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, witnessed Eden, Isla and Toby lead prayers and talk to Key Stage 2 pupils about the world's endangered species and how everyone can help to support these precious animals. Describing them as 'courageous advocates', Richard complimented the children on their presentation and organisational skills. A special thank you to Thomas from Year 4 who took the photographs.

  • Year 6 Pupils encouraged to debate topical issues

    Wed 17 May 2023

Year 6 pupils found themselves debating a motion to allow refugees to settle in the UK today. Year 6 Teacher Mrs Brand was very impressed with how articulate and knowledgeable the children are about topical issues.

Melody from Pankhurst class is a keen debater having recently represented the school in a debating challenge at Bancroft’s School. She was pleased to be involved in the debating chamber again: "Although I was chosen to argue against a motion I agree with, I found the experience a challenge as I had to think on my feet. Sometimes it's good to wear someone else's shoes when arguing a point."

Jessica, also from Pankhurst class, was reluctant to take part at first saying, "I was a bit nervous to begin with as I normally don't like expressing my opinions in front of other people but once I got started I really enjoyed the experience."
