  • World Earth Day 2023

    Thu 20 Apr 2023

With Saturday 22nd April designated as 'World Earth Day', pupils across both sites have been encouraged to take part in activities at school this week that provide a focus on Planet Earth and ways we can look after it.

Year  6 students Tia, Dulcie and Zion are very passionate about this subject. Tia urges everyone to 'plant more trees and focus on recycling'. Dulcie said, 'I'm really pleased that in this country the government is beginning to crack down on issues such as climate change. I worry about the extinction of animals in the Polar regions due to the melting of the ice caps.'  Zion raised the issue of car use. 'People should cycle more', he enthused, 'traffic pollution is a killer!'

  • Barbican Visit

    Tue 04 Apr 2023

Year 5 visited the Barbican recently to see the London Symphony Orchestra perform and to learn about George Gershwin's journey to becoming an orchestral composer. Already hugely successful, George was turned away by his heroes who did not want to tamper with his unique talents. The message of the concert was to believe in your own genius. In our own journey before the concert we explored the composers admired by Gershwin and his own works. The children were also thrilled to see some of their artwork displayed behind the orchestra. We all enjoyed the performance. Carter enthused that listening to the music was like going on an adventure in his own mind!

  • New Chicks on the Block

    Tue 04 Apr 2023

Reception Darling and Shakespeare were excited to receive a clutch of eggs recently from the Happy Chick Co. which (to the delight of the children) then hatched during the school day. The classes then shared the responsibility to care for the chicks and they enjoyed handling them.

  • Allotment Visit

    Tue 04 Apr 2023

Recently some of the children visited the allotment. We had such an amazing, and busy time there. Ann and Andrew showed us lots of different vegetables growing in the plots, we tried rocket and purple sprouting broccoli, we noticed how much our onions had grown and we planted chitting potatoes and radishes in our own plot.  Before we left, Richard spoke to us about the bees and kindly gave us a honeycomb to take back to school.
