  • Rights Respecting School Council Trip to Town Hall

    Fri 28 Feb 2025 HN

Today the RRS school council went to Waltham forest town Hall.  We met the mayor in the debating chamber. Her name was councillor Sharon Waldron. Her sister was her consort.

This year the mayor’s charities are:

The Waltham forest dyslexia society and charities that work with people who are affected by dementia.

She was very inspirational and also wanted to raise awareness on neurodiversity due to the fact that she has been diagnosed with this.  One of our council members informed the mayor that we had raised money for the dyslexia association and that he himself had dyslexia.

William said that what he took away from this trip was ‘That even if you have challenges in life you can still accomplish great things and help the wider community’.

What Anthony thought was that ‘Even if you have faced many challenges in life you can still follow your dreams’.

We asked her lots of questions like:

What is it like being Mayor?

What is the best part about being Mayor?

What is the difference between the Mayor of London and Mayor of Waltham Forest?

What has been your favourite food? (She is invited to lots of different functions)

What was your best accomplishment so far as Mayor?

All of our RRS school council very much enjoyed the trip to Walthamstow town hall.

This report was by William and Anthony.

  • The Shivers

    Thu 27 Feb 2025

Today Year 6 had a fantastic opportunity to watch a performance called The Shivers by Emma and PJ, who are a company that have been commissioned by Primary Arts to deliver workshops based on topics inspired by Primary age children. Highlights of the day were the spectacular performance and the chance to take part in developing and performing their own scenes inspired by the play, The Shivers.

  • Forgotten Women charity

    Thu 27 Feb 2025

Supporting children in war torn parts of the world is very close to the hearts of the children at CCofE. We have successfully raised much needed money and resources for the children of Ukraine and the children of Gaza in the past. We are very keen to support one of our parents, Ms Mehreen Khan, on a very brave and humanitarian journey. Please read Mehreen’s message and help if you can:

Join Me in a Mission of Hope!

As a single mother of two and a dedicated member of our CofE school community for six years, I’m taking a deeply personal step. Next week, I’ll be travelling to Palestine with the charity, “Forgotten Women” to deliver urgent food and medical aid to those suffering in refugee camps amid the ongoing war.

With support from both the UK and Israeli governments, our charity team has been granted access to provide critical assistance where it’s needed most. Your donations will have a direct impact on the lives of women and children in desperate need.

Please join me in making a difference:

  • Visit from Sir Ian Duncan Smith

    Thu 06 Feb 2025 HN

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Sir Iain Duncan Smith to our school. The Rights Respecting School councillors asked him questions about being an MP, such as:

What did you do before politics?

What problem is most prominent in our constituency, and how are you planning to resolve it?

Why did the public vote for you over other candidates in this constituency?

Will you help us with our traffic campaign? (It was a really big yes and we gave him a letter detailing what we would like him to do!)

He talked to the whole junior site about all these issues. It was really interesting and inspiring.

He said he wanted to come back and look round the whole school to find out the exciting work that we do as a Gold Rights Respecting School. Mikayla and Ella presented with a book let that explained what a Gold Right Respecting School looks like.

  • Kapla!

    Thu 30 Jan 2025

We had an exciting opportunity which the whole school thoroughly enjoyed!  KAPLA Club came to Chingford C of E for three days to run unique, workshops where every child participated.  For more information, follow the link below:

    https://kaplaclubs.co.uk/

At the end of the three days we had filled the Junior Hall with a unique exhibition - a type of museum display - showcasing each child’s artistic contribution to a monumental whole school masterpiece.

We couldn't done it without Volunteers and so a huge thank you to the 25 volunteers who helped us - some of them came more than once!

It took 419 children and 30,000 bricks but together through careful listening and collaboration we achieved a truly wondrous site!

  • Modern Music Day

    Tue 14 Jan 2025

A huge thank you to Mrs Blake for organising our first Modern Music Day on Tuesday this week. The aim was to teach the children that modern music in this country can all be traced back to the Blues. Each year group took a different genre, with reception listening to pop music, Y1 to jazz, Y2 to country, Y3 to R&B, Y4 to rock, Y5 to rap/soul/funk and Y6 to punk music. The children listened to, danced to music. They had a go at writing their own music and lyrics. They even designed clothes to fit with the fashions of their genre. The school was alive to the sound of music! It was wonderful! There were many high spots, but discovering Brodie in Y3’s amazing voice, listening to a duet that brother and sister Tyler and Millie had pre-prepared at home, and looking at the clothes Y6 designed for the punk rock era were definitely up there as wonderful moments! A huge thank you also to Joe Cloney, musician, who gave his time to work with each class during the day. https://music.apple.com/us/artist/joe-cloney/1526365149

  • Trip to Parliament

    Thu 05 Dec 2024 HN

Our Trip to the houses of Parliament.

First, we took the train and the tube to the Houses of Parliament. We had to go through airport style security. Elaine and Gopash were our guides for the day. They took us around Parliament.  We had to wear special headphones to hear what they were saying. We were even lucky enough to see a real debate in the House of Commons.

Mikayla thought that the information given to us by Lauren (our session leader) was very interesting and we got to play games to do with objects from Parliament too.  At the end of the session we had to press buttons on a special computer to say whether we agreed with different statements about parliament. That was fun.

Hayden liked watching the debate. We went up lots and lots of stairs.  Dexxi thought there too many stairs!

Jack liked the headphones that they gave us when we were shown around.  He liked finding out about the different coloured seating in the House of Lords and House of Commons.

Daniel really liked the guides (Elaine and Dopash) and he thought it was great that they answered so many questions.

Mrs Nicholaou was surprised to find out that the Great Hall was once used for games of tennis and that recently they found old tennis balls up in the rafters!

    Tue 03 Dec 2024

A huge thank you to the Parents' Association for organising the Christmas fayre on Saturday 30th November. It was a wonderful event starting at 12noon and finishing at 4pm, on the junior site. There were so many stalls to play games at or to buy goodies. Santa was in his Grotto and available for photographs! The choir sang beautifully in the hall amongst the stalls!
