Rights Respecting School Council Trip to Parliament
Tue 18 Nov 2025The RRS school council went on a really informative trip to the Houses of Parliament today. We took the train to Liverpool Street and then the Circle line to Westminster.
When we got there Alicia (our fantastic tour guide) gave us a lanyard and we went through airport style security.
We were given some headphones that would help us listen to the tour guide clearer and then we went on our tour through an archway into some very old buildings. You could see the age of the buildings because there were some signs of dates on top of the drain pipes. After that, we went through a mysterious metal door that spins when we go through it.
We were in the heart of parliament by now, while Alicia was talking about where the House of Lords and House of Commons were, a real lord from the House of Lords came to speak to us. He said that he was appointed by David Cameron 10 years ago and he was an expert in trade.
We went up what seemed like thousands of stairs into the House of Commons in the viewing gallery and we got to see a real debate about the eco side of things and net zero .We were lucky enough to see where the speaker, government and opposition ministers sit.
When we went down all the stairs we entered our workshop.
It was about how bills are passed. We enjoyed finding out about parliamentary ping pong, which is when the bills start at House of Commons (one of two debating chambers) and once the idea is agreed among the MPS and the lords it becomes a law after being signed by the monarchy.
One of the councillors named Rebecca said that “My favourite part of visiting parliament was going into the house of commons because you always learn about it but never get to see it and it was a good experience to see it with your own eyes”
Olivia said “My favourite part was when we wore the headphone set because once you hear Alicia you could find out lots of things about parliament that you didn’t know before.”
“My favourite part was when we entered the House of Commons and watched a live debate.” Said Charlotte.

The Barbican and the LSO
Fri 07 Nov 2025This week, Y4 and Y2 have been lucky enough to attend concerts at the The Barbican! On Wednesday, Y4 watched a live concert by the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Hall. The concert was based on the theme ‘A Dream, a witch and a waltz’ from Hector Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique. The “Can-Can” music was very popular with the children and they reported that they had a thoroughly lovely time.
Yesterday was also the turn of Y2 to attend a concert at the Barbican. Mrs Khalil said the children were beautifully behaved and thoroughly enjoyed a concert is based on the theme ‘Percussion’. Mrs Khalil said it was one of the best trips she has been on!
A huge thank you to Miss Habershon for organising the Barbican music trips.

Y6 visited the The Natural History Museum
Thu 06 Nov 2025Y6 visited the Natural History Museum. The purpose of this visit was to consolidate their learning in class about Evolution. They attended a workshop; Exploring Evolution designed especially for Year 6. Pupils learnt what evolution is by getting hands-on with sensory objects and specimens to explore how horses have evolved over time and then encouraged to use critical thinking skills to consider how animals in the UK will evolve in the future.
Y6 pupils were thrilled to see a Physalia Physalis or a Portuguese man o’ war, at The Natural History Museum. The Physalia Physalis is often called a jellyfish, but is actually a species of siphonophore, a group of animals that are closely related to jellyfish.
Y6 are looking forward to sharing more about their visit when they lead assembly next week both to the junior site and to their parents!

Y4 visit the The Science Museum
Mon 03 Nov 2025Y4 enjoyed a very interesting visit to the Science Museum. Miss Efreme reported back that the science museum provided an engaging, interactive way to learn about science and technology. The children really benefitted from hands-on play in some galleries and were memorised by awe-inspiring exhibits like real aircraft and the Apollo moon lander. The Science Museum encourages curiosity, experimentation, and discovery through its diverse exhibits, live shows, and simulators, making learning fun and memorable.

Rights Respecting Council Trip to City Hall
Tue 21 Oct 2025City Hall Visit
On our trip we went to City Hall.
We went on three different modes of transport – the overground to Liverpool Street, the underground to Tower Hill and then the DLR to Royal Victoria.
We went through airport like security and then we were greeted by Richard. He was really kind and knowledgeable.
Richard told us all about London now and then. He showed us the past and present mayors of London. Then he showed us a really exciting video of London in different time periods.
Charlotte commented ‘I like when we saw the debating room because it was very interesting knowing who uses it – the Mayor of London and all the elected members of the assembly. People who don’t work in city hall can sit in the comfy cinema like seats – they can see what the Mayor is debating what things would make London a better environment for everyone.’
Once we had finished at City Hall we were lucky enough to go on the cable cars which took us over the River Thames. It was fun because we got to sit in the cable cars and see what the River Thames looks like from a height.
‘Overall I would say it was a ten out of ten trip because City Hall is such a fabulous place, the members are so nice and greeted us like we were the Mayor! ‘By Charlotte.
Report by Olivia and Charlotte.

Pupil led Collective Worship
Thu 09 Oct 2025Huge congratulations to Gillian, Penny and Charlotte who wrote and presented an assembly to both sites about World Religions today. It was warmly received by both sites and highly informative. They spent their break times researching and producing the power point presentation that they shared. It is nerve racking speaking in front of 420 pupils plus staff but the three Y6 pupils made it look easy!

Karl Nova the poet worked with selected Y4 pupils!
Wed 08 Oct 2025Selected Y4 pupils joined Y4 pupils from nearby schools for a day of poetry on Wednesday. They had a fantastic time!
In his award winning debut book “Rhythm and Poetry”, the beauty of rap lyricism and Hip Hop influenced poetry is displayed with wit, humour and positivity. His approach is to meet young people where they are and engage them with the style and attitude they are familiar with while keeping his content wholesome, inspirational but still very real. This collection reflects on his journey of growth from childhood to adulthood through the lens of hip hop culture with a great freshness, sincerity and realism. A lot of the verses have already impacted many lives as he travels and delivers them with his unique and energetic style.
