  • RRSA pupil event at Newport primary

    Mon 07 Jul 2025 HN

We went to Newport Primary School to share our good practice with other schools in the borough that are on their Rights Respecting Schools Journey.  Indie, William and Aliza spoke with great confidence and enthusiasm to 30 children and teachers from across the borough.  They spoke about the fact that our school got involved in Outright this year – and invited Sir Ian Duncan Smith in to school to answer questions about our traffic campaign.  The Outright campaign this year was to engage with our changemaker – which we did with great success.  The organisers of Outright have even chosen our work to include in a Powerpoint that has been sent to all M.P.s within parliament. Helen Trivers, the Unicef co-ordinator for London Boroughs was very impressed

  • The Big Football Day!

    Sat 05 Jul 2025

Today, Chingford C of E Primary hosted AFC Leyton for a special one off activity/fun day, called The Big Football Day. They had two lioness legends on site doing meet and greets. They were the England lioness legends,  Fara Williams, the most capped England player of all time (male and female) and Nikita Paris, a Euro 2022 winner with England. There was fun and games, coaching and learning a plenty!

AFC Leyton are one of a very limited number of female only football clubs in London and the only one with a pathway from youth through to their first team.

Leyton FC were approached by the FA and National Lottery to host the event and Chingford CofE was delighted to offer a venue as lots of our girls, past and present, play for AFC Leyton and it is a great opportunity to promote girls football and for local girl players to meet their heroes and have some very special coaching.

BBC1 breakfast news covered the event live at 7.24, 8.38 and 9.24 if you want to catch it on i-player! BBC Five Live also covered the event! We are very proud to host it! Good luck to England and Wales today!

  • Y3 sing Carmen!

    Wed 02 Jul 2025

The opera Carmen, written by Georges Bizet, was adapted and directed by Maya Sapone, and performed by a range of local schools along with the Waltham Forest Youth Orchestra, Little choir of Joy and the Young Dudes Guitar Group. Our Y3 children had the pleasure and privilege to be part of it! It was sublime!

Thank you to Mrs Blake and the Y3 team for giving the children this amazing opportunity.

  • Y5 Residential

    Thu 26 Jun 2025

The Hive – formerly known as Suntrap is nestled deep in Epping Forest .It offers outdoor educational activities for schools, families, adults and community groups. It provides an opportunity to learn about our natural environment first hand finding out about positive actions that tackle our climate and ecological emergencies. Y5 spent 2 nights and 3 days there and had a fantastic time!

The children behaved beautifully and a big thank you goes to staff for organising it and giving up their own time to make it happen!

  • A week of concerts!

    Fri 20 Jun 2025

This week years 2 and 5 visited The Barbican Centre where they listened to performances by The London Symphony Orchestra and sang songs we have been practising at school.

The orchestra took year 2 on a whistle stop tour of landscapes that have inspired composers. We visited Mexico with Arturo Márquez and his 'La Conga del Fuego Nuevo', Phyllis Tate took us for a spin around 'The Maze at Hampton Court from London Fields', we journeyed to the Czech Republic with Bedřich Smetana's Vltava (The Moldau) from Má vlast (My country) and listened out for the nocturnal whippoorwill bird in William Grant Still's work Whippoorwill's Shoes from Wood Notes. The children sang beautifully and their impeccable behaviour was remarked on by members of the public both on the journey and at the venue.

The year 5 concert was all about the concerto, a conversation between the soloist and the orchestra, this was presented and conducted by Tim Redmond alongside piano soloist Alexandra Dariescu (your child may delight you with a song about Miss Dariescu!).  We listened to compositions spanning over 300 years including some by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninov, (Clara) Schumann and James Lee iii.  The children were very patient when our journey back was affected by a power cut on several of the lines at Liverpool Street station.

  • Year 6 Activities Week

    Fri 06 Jun 2025

Year 6 have had a fantastic week out and about exploring London! On Tuesday they visited London Zoo. London Zoo, previously known as ZSL London Zoo or London Zoological Gardens and sometimes called Regent's Park Zoo, is the world's oldest scientific zoo. It was opened in London on 27 April 1828, and was originally intended to be used as a collection for scientific study.

On Wednesday, they toured the Tower of London. The Tower of London, officially His Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, is a historic citadel and castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. There is currently a new special commemorative display of ceramic poppies installed inside the Tower of London to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

On Thursday they went to a trampoline park and on Friday they visited the London Aquarium. The Sea Life London Aquarium is located on the ground floor of County Hall on the South Bank of the River Thames in central London, near the London Eye. It opened in March 1997 as the London Aquarium and hosts about one million visitors each year!

  • Mothering Sunday celebrations

    Fri 28 Mar 2025

    History of Mothering Sunday

Held on the fourth Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday, it was a originally a day to honour and give thanks to the Virgin Mary, also known as Mother Mary. Such celebrations required people to visit their 'mother' church - the main church or cathedral in a family's area.

We were delighted to invite parents/carers of Reception children to join their child having a cooked breakfast together at the juniors before beginning their school day. Thank you to all the grown-ups, Mums, Nans, Dad's who were able to come.

  • Y5 pupils bring home GOLD!

    Mon 24 Mar 2025

Chingford CofE attended a swimming competition in the form of a Panathlon led swimming challenge at the London Aquatics centre on Monday 24th March.

6 children were selected to take part in the event, having to complete an array of different swimming based challenges to score points for their school. These challenges gave the children the chance to showcase their love for swimming within a safe, friendly and fun environment.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the Treasure Hunt Challenge which involved them gathering different floating and sinking objects and returning back to their teams raft. They also loved racing against other children in the Ferry Travel Challenge using a float to travel from one side of the pool to the other as quick as possible.

A big thank you to the aqua leaders and volunteers from Panathlon who helped support our children within the water and made the event an enjoyable experience. We look forward to the next one!
