Tue 14 Mar 2023Following weekly training sessions from members of Red Balloon, 16 Year 5 mental health 'Champions' will shortly begin mentoring Year 4 pupils to encourage them to look after their emotional, physical and dietary wellbeing through a programme known as the 'Champions Challenge’.
Each day, for a period of 6 weeks, Year 4 pupils will be encouraged to record in a wellbeing journal something that was good for their physical health, something that helped their emotional wellbeing and a healthy meal they managed to eat.
Once a week, the journals will be given to our Year 5 'Champions' who will monitor each child's progress offering advice and liaising with teaching staff if necessary.
The programme was kick started during this morning's assembly when the Year 5 'Champions' presented the project to all of our KeyStage 2 pupils.
Year 5 pupil, Thomas, who was interviewed proudly wearing his 'Champions' badge, is very enthusiastic about the 'Champions Challenge'. "I'm excited about this", he said, "I think it's brilliant being able to help others and not just look after ourselves."

Year 2 visit The Hive
Fri 10 Mar 2023Year 2 had a fantastic day at The Hive, formerly known as Suntrap, in Epping Forest, learning all about the forest habitat and the animals that live there. We learnt about vertebrates and invertebrates in the classroom before venturing out for a forest adventure. We clambered over trees, trudged through the muddy forest floor and splashed along the stream. We went on a minibeast hunt in the microhabitats of the forest and observed the animals carefully to identify them. After that, we made pictures of the animals we found using natural materials found in the forest and talked about their food chains. In the afternoon, we met some of The Hive's incredible residents. We observed and handled giant snails, stick insects, cockroaches, salamanders and finally, Cornflake and Cynthia the corn snakes.

Rights Respecting School Councillors Visit New City Hall
Tue 28 Feb 2023Following on from recent visits to Waltham Forest Town Hall and the Houses of Parliament, our Rights Respecting School Council members made the long journey to New City Hall today, home of the Mayor of London and the London Assembly, to find out more about governance and democracy in the United Kingdom.
The children were met by our host for the day, Richard Nicholson, who besides instructing the children about the role of London's Mayor and the London Assembly in governing the city, took the party into the debating chamber to see members of the London Assembly debating the capital's transport issues.
As part of our trip to New City Hall, the children also received free tickets for a return journey on the IFS Cloud cable car ride.
Year 4 councillor, Ethan, said, "I really enjoyed finding out about how London works. The cable car trip was really cool."
Year 3 councillor, Rebecca, added, "It was really interesting attending the meeting to see how things are debated. I was a little bit nervous at first about the cable car ride but found it fascinating seeing the planes landing and taking off at London City Airport from 90 metres above the River Thames."
