World Earth Day 2023
Thu 20 Apr 2023With Saturday 22nd April designated as 'World Earth Day', pupils across both sites have been encouraged to take part in activities at school this week that provide a focus on Planet Earth and ways we can look after it.
Year 6 students Tia, Dulcie and Zion are very passionate about this subject. Tia urges everyone to 'plant more trees and focus on recycling'. Dulcie said, 'I'm really pleased that in this country the government is beginning to crack down on issues such as climate change. I worry about the extinction of animals in the Polar regions due to the melting of the ice caps.' Zion raised the issue of car use. 'People should cycle more', he enthused, 'traffic pollution is a killer!'

Barbican Visit
Tue 04 Apr 2023Year 5 visited the Barbican recently to see the London Symphony Orchestra perform and to learn about George Gershwin's journey to becoming an orchestral composer. Already hugely successful, George was turned away by his heroes who did not want to tamper with his unique talents. The message of the concert was to believe in your own genius. In our own journey before the concert we explored the composers admired by Gershwin and his own works. The children were also thrilled to see some of their artwork displayed behind the orchestra. We all enjoyed the performance. Carter enthused that listening to the music was like going on an adventure in his own mind!

Allotment Visit
Tue 04 Apr 2023Recently some of the children visited the allotment. We had such an amazing, and busy time there. Ann and Andrew showed us lots of different vegetables growing in the plots, we tried rocket and purple sprouting broccoli, we noticed how much our onions had grown and we planted chitting potatoes and radishes in our own plot. Before we left, Richard spoke to us about the bees and kindly gave us a honeycomb to take back to school.

Easter Church Service
Fri 31 Mar 2023The Spring Term ended today with a Church Service led by Father Justin at the Parish Church. As part of his talk Father Justin stapled pieces of paper onto a very large wooden cross in front of the altar. Each sheet of paper had a sin or wrong doing written on it. He then set fire to the pieces of paper to emphasise the fact that Christ paid the penalty for our sins on the cross. Needless to say, the children were very excited by this spectacle!
Year 4 pupil, Caleb, commented, " I was a bit nervous when he first started to light up the pieces of paper on the cross as most of the building is made of wood but I needn't have worried as everything was under control and it was all good fun."
Year 5 pupil, Issy, added, "My friends and I were shocked that Father Justin's a firestarter! It certainly grabbed everyone's attention leaving us all shocked!"
In the absence of Ms Lampard, Mr Osborne read out her Headteacher's Address which included wishing everyone in our school community a very happy and peaceful Easter.

Red Balloon Easter Boxes
Tue 28 Mar 2023The Red Balloon Foundation play a key role in supporting the School's delivery of the RE curriculum by providing us with festival boxes each term containing artefacts and other resources that support a PowerPoint presentation produced by Luke Lowrie and his team.
This term's 'Easter Box' focuses on the parable of 'The Tenants' found in Matthew's Gospel with the children being given the opportunity to explore whether Christians believe that Jesus' death on the Cross was a tragic mistake rectified by God through the resurrection, or whether what happened on Good Friday was actually God's plan all along.
Year 3 pupil, Rebecca, found it interesting learning about Holy Week, saying, "I learnt that Jesus suffered badly before being crucified."
Fellow Year 3 pupil, Eliz, added, "I enjoyed the presentation by Luke as it was really interesting and educational."

Let Girls Play!
Mon 27 Mar 2023Last Friday we had our annual Let Girls Play Day event and it was a great success. It was fantastic to see all of the different football shirts on display representing teams and countries from all over the world!
The girls had an opportunity to take part in dribbling, shooting and passing sessions as well as being exposed to a football game. Those taking part behaved impeccably throughout each session and showed wonderful enthusiasm and footballing ability.
Despite the rain attempting to spoil outdoor proceedings it did not defer from what was a wonderful day and a great opportunity for girls to take part in football sessions. If this has encouraged your child to take part in more football sessions, then the girls’ football club (year 5 and 6 only) runs on a Tuesday with Mr Blake and spaces are available for after Easter.

Footballer Visit
Thu 23 Mar 2023Hythe Town footballer, Marvin Hamilton-Omole, came into assembly today to talk to Key Stage 2 children about his career as a footballer which has seen him play for numerous teams including Gillingham, Cypriot side APEP and Albany Creek who play in the Australian Brisbane Premier League.
Marvin has also played for Sri Lanka at full international level representing his mother's birthplace in the qualifying rounds of the World Cup.
The special assembly was hosted by Year 6 pupils Coco, Yasmin and Bethany who provided the audience with a PowerPoint presentation about Marvin's career as well as interviewing him and leading a Q&A session with questions coming from the audience.
The visit coincides with tomorrow's 'Let Girls Play Day' which will see all girls across the school participate in football related activities.
Year 6 pupil Asfandyar thoroughly enjoyed the assembly saying, "It's great having people from outside of school come into assembly to tell us about their lives."
