  • City Hall Comes to C of E!

    Wed 10 Nov 2021

With London's Mayor, Sadiq Khan, and the London Assembly preparing to move out of City Hall to set up camp at a new location in Docklands, the Rights Respecting School Council were unable to make the annual visit to the South Bank to meet up with Richard Nicholson, City Hall's Education Visits Coordinator, who lectures on the role of the Mayor and how London is governed. However, Richard was able to visit the school to talk to the children who were inspired by his passion and knowledge about London and how it is governed.

Year 5 councillor, Bethany thoroughly enjoyed her visit saying, "It was really interesting. I particularly enjoyed hearing about the events Richard has helped organise which included making a cup of tea for Beyonce and getting to meet Nelson Mandela!"  Fellow Year 5 councillor, Tia, commented, "It was a great experience to learn about what goes on in  City Hall." Year 4 councillor, Kiki, added, "Richard really inspired me. I think I might want to be a politician one day!"

  • Rights Respecting Councillors Meet Waltham Forest's Mayor

    Fri 05 Nov 2021

The newly formed Rights Respecting School Council visited the Town Hall in Walthamstow to further their knowledge about democracy and how governance works at a local level.  During their meeting organised by local councillor, Roy Berg, the children were introduced to the Borough's Mayor, Elizabeth Baptiste, and taken on a tour of the recently refurbished chambers. They also were given the opportunity to talk to another official, Cllr Stratham, about their concerns with regard to parking outside the school and the issues caused through the non-replacement of Stan, our much loved school crossing attendant who helped children and families cross the busy Kings Road for many years.

Following on from the councillors' meeting with the Mayor, it has been decided that the school will be supporting one of the Mayor's chosen charities - The Sickle Cell Society. The school plan to hold a fundraising Pyjama Day to be held on Friday, 14th January 2022. Hopefully the Mayor will be able to come to school to join in the fun!
