Key Stage 2 pupils took part today in the school's annual talent contest, The T-Factor. Unlike previous years, the contest was streamed to all classes across the school with each class on the Junior site selecting an act to compete in the competition.

Once the votes had been called in from each class, 'The Darwinians', representing 6Darwin and performing a Minecraft inspired version of 'Revenge', emerged as eventual winners narrowly beating 'The Hawks' from 5Hawking who paid homage to Queen with a storming rendition of 'We Will Rock You'.

  • Votes for Schools

    Fri 09 Jul 2021

Listening to the voice of our pupils is of paramount importance at Chingford C of E Primary. We listen very carefully to what the children have to say and how they feel about things inside and outside of school. We do this through such things as the school council, circle times and by providing opportunities for prayer and individual conversations with learning buddies and teachers. We also subscribe to an online learning platform called 'Votes for Schools' which produces weekly PowerPoint presentations on topical issues stimulating thought and debate. At the end of each session pupils can vote on how they think about a particular issue. The votes provide data that can be compared with how other children are thinking both locally and nationally.

A recent presentation on the refugee crisis prompted a great deal of discussion and it was very pleasing to see the majority of our pupils echoing the sentiments found in our school Christian vision statement, 'Don't look out only for your own interests but take an interest in others, too.' (Philippians 2:4)

Permission has been given for the publication of 'Votes for Schools' material

  • Courageous Advocate Meets Waltham Forest's Catering Operations Manager

    Fri 09 Jul 2021

Year 6 pupil, Caspar, who has been campaigning for improved methods of food sourcing since leading an assembly on the subject, got to meet Waltham Forest's Catering Operations Manager, Christine Cornall, yesterday to discuss how the Borough sources food that is eaten in over 50 local school dining rooms and canteens.

Caspar was very grateful that Christine was prepared to give up some of her busy schedule to come to school to talk to him.

"I asked loads of questions," reported Caspar. " I was particularly concerned to find out about the Borough's food suppliers and animal welfare standards. I was please to be gifted with honest and reasoned responses that have furthered my knowledge about the processes involved in getting food on plates during lunch hour."

The school would also like to add its thanks to Christine for supporting Caspar on this important matter.

Despite the current restrictions, most of the pupils were able to enjoy Sports Day today. Unfortunately, due to the recent 'bubble' closures Years 3 and 4 were unable to participate but plans are afoot for them to enjoy Sports Day when they complete their period of isolation next week.

With fine weather marking the day, Reception and Key Stage 1 children took part in their races during the morning with Years 5 and 6 participating in the afternoon.

Zac, from Year 5, was extremely proud of his achievements during the events he participated in but lamented, 'It was a shame all the parents and other family members weren't allowed to cheer us on but it was a great day.'

Fellow Year 5 pupil, Tommy, commented, 'It was great being out in the fresh air enjoying ourselves. Hopefully things will get back to normal again.'
