Key Steps Gymnastics Competition
Tue 15 Mar 2016What a lovely day for a walk in through the park... to the Key Steps Gymnastics competition borough heats held at Parkside school on Friday 11th March.
Years 4 and years 5/6 took part in 3 disciplines - vault, body management and floor exercise.
The children overcame initial nerves and performed brilliantly.
With so many schools in the borough competing over several sessions, final results are not known as yet. Fingers crossed that we progress to the next round at Leyton sixth form college after the Easter break.

More Able Maths Day
Wed 24 Feb 2016Twelve pupils from years 5 and 6 had a day of maths with mathematician, Julia Smith.
Working in teams and partnerships, we were asked to complete several tasks involving maths.
The day overall was fun and educational. We enjoyed listening to the parody songs at the beginning of the lesson because they encouraged us to work as a team to solve an extremely fast sum!
Our teacher, Mrs Smith, taught us about algebra and geometry. We did lots of crafty activities whilst we were learning. Some of them were: maths A-Z tablecloths; mathematical clocks and triangular bunting. We all had a lovely, enjoyable day and learnt a lot!

Tate Modern Visit
Tue 09 Feb 2016Fourteen year 6 pupils went to the Tate Modern Gallery with Mrs Rowlnad on Tuesday 9th February. We arrived, had lunch and then met an artist who showed us around.
Throughout the day, we participated in two great activities in pairs. Our favourite activity was making a huge mess around the gallery with wool. Trailing different coloured balls of wool through sculpture rooms, we created visual art with patterns and lines of wool. The public were defiantly confused! While we were doing this, we gazed upon a room filled with human hair! After that we collected up the wool to create a vibrant mixture of colours.
Next, we looked around a different part of the gallery and our second assignment was to look in newspapers. We had to find: a powerful verb; a place and a noun. Using this variety of words we created our own sentences which made us laugh when we read them out. Then we had to try and match our sentences to a piece of art work in the gallery.
To summarise, it was a brilliant experience as well as a great day out.

C of E's Under 11 Boys Football Team
Tue 09 Feb 2016Chingford C of E’s Under 11’s boys’ 6 a-side football team have qualified for a prestigious Premier League tournament following a sensational performance at Tottenham Hotspur’s Training Centre on 5th February.
Having previously qualified to represent Waltham Forest in the finals of the Tottenham Hotspur U11’s tournament, C of E found themselves up against schools from the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey with the prize at stake being the chance to represent Spurs in a national tournament involving all 20 Premier League clubs.
C of E stormed through the league stage of the competition winning all six of their games allowing them to meet St Ignatius School from Haringey in the semi final. In a thrilling match Chingford went through to the final following a penalty shoot-out thanks largely to the heroics of goal keeper, George Murray Jones.
The final against Woodcroft Primary from Barnet was a close affair but a late Derin Mehmet goal separated the two sides meaning C of E will now go on to represent Tottenham Hotspur in the annual Premier League Under 11’s tournament which takes places at Everton’s Goodison Park ground on 17th May.
Delighted Deputy Headteacher, Ian Osborne, who coaches the team commented, “This is a wonderful achievement for the team. To earn the opportunity to play at a top Premier League team’s ground in a nationally acclaimed tournament is a dream come true for the boys.”

Fri 29 Jan 2016C of E Football Boys' A Team Report 2015-16
By Elliott Smith & Jorja Pollard of class 5B
‘It has been a great season so far,’ says Mr Osborne, head coach of the Chingford C of E school football team. With the team doing very well in a number of tournaments, and with a major competition next week at Tottenham Hotspur’s impressive training ground, there’s much to look forward to.
Mr Osborne added, ‘We want to represent the borough at Crystal Palace in the London Youth Games and being that we have good players, we have every chance!’
‘A highlight for me was when David Harris scored 6 goals in consecutive matches; quite an achievement!’
We also spoke to team captain, Jedd Coster. ‘Our greatest strength is our skill. But with more training, we can improve further.’
Jedd added, ‘We are a bit nervous about the competition next Friday but still looking forward to it very much and I think we can get to the Semi-Finals at least!
Mr Bloomfield, who helps Mr Osborne coach the team said, ‘I have seen this team improve dramatically during the season. At the beginning, they were a bit ramshackle, but now they are a well-oiled machine that is a match for anyone!
‘Whoever we play, I’m really confident of victory because we have great players in all positions. We are sound in defence and very creative when we push forward.’
