CofE's boys meet premier league stars

C of E’s boys’ football team got to meet Premier League stars Son Heung-min and Kevin Wimmer when they trained at Spurs’ training centre in preparation for their participation in the prestigious Premier League U11’s tournament to be held at Everton’s Goodison Park stadium on May 17th.

The two internationals took part in a Q&A session during a break in the club’s last training session before they play Newcastle United in their last game of the season.

The boys themselves will shortly be playing Newcastle in the league stage of the U11’s tournament. The team will also be pitting their skills against teams from Arsenal, Chelsea and Bournemouth in the first phase of what promises to be a memorable occasion.

Over 14,000 young people and 1,700 schools competed for a place in the final after taking part in a series of heats hosted by their local Premier League club.

Kevin and Sonny gave their top tips to the players, including the importance of resting the night before, having a nutritional pre-match meal, overcoming pre-match nerves and working as a team on the pitch.

Kevin said: “Having observed the training session I’d say there are definitely some talented players there so I hope they take on board the advice we gave them for the final. One of the most important things about football is to enjoy it and I’m sure the players will love every minute of representing the Club.”

Sonny said: “It was great to meet the children and I wish them the best of luck in the final.”

David, 11, Chingford CofE Primary School's star striker said: “I’ve had a great day at the Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre and meeting the players. It’s inspired me to do my best in the final and I’m really looking forward to wearing the Spurs kit and playing at Goodison Park.”

Around 400 young players will represent their local Premier League club competing in U11 Mixed and U13 Girls categories.

Following the group stages, the tournament will take on a knockout format with the Premier League Schools Tournament champions being crowned and presented with a replica Premier League trophy.

All of the students participating on the day will receive an authentic Premier League experience - wearing their Premier League club kit, using the dressing rooms at Goodison Park, walking out of the tunnel to the Premier League anthem, and even having their matches refereed by Premier League match officials

Tennis Competition

17 children from years 3 and 4 were invited to take part in a borough Tennis competition at the Connaught club in Chingford on the morning of Friday 29th April.

Competing against local schools, we played fantastically. It was lovely to see ex pupils now at Chingford a Foundation school who were the umpires and scorers.

A and B teams made it through to the finals and the A team won so we are back for the borough finals next month.

Daisy, Ellis, William and Imogen made it through to the gymnastics finals at letting sixth form college on Friday 22nd April.

Competing against parkside, Yardley, Woodside and handsworth schools in three disciplines - vault, floor and body management.

Marathon Day - Wednesday 13th April

On Wednesday 13th April we held Marathon Day at the KS2 site in honour of Miss Efreme who will be running the London marathon in 11 days time!

The activities that the children took part in included:

2 orienteering

3 Kurling

4 circuits

5 speed stacking

6 boxing

7 parachute

8 tug o’ war

9 quiz

10 drawing sports

11 archery

12 table tennis

13 fine motor

14 tyres and space hoppers

The weather was glorious and the children had a unique experience. Well done to the year 5 and 6 volunteers for their leadership skills.

Premier League U11's Tournament

Everton and England defender, Leighton Baines, recently made the draw for the finals of the Premier League U11s Tournament to be held at Goodison Park in May.

Chingford C of E will be representing Tottenham Hotspur on the day after winning Spurs' regional tournament a couple of months ago.

The team have been drawn in a group involving teams representing Arsenal, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Newcastle.

Keep an eye out for more information as the tournament draws closer.

Alternative Sports Day

30 year 4 children took part in alternative sports on 23rd March this was led by sports leaders from Chingford Foundation School. The children had the opportunity to take part in - speed stacking, lacrosse, boxing, archery, parachute, table tennis and tri-golf. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed taking part. All our children behaved exceptionally well and were a credit to the school. Thank you to parents for taking and collecting your children from Longshaw Primary.

Cross Country Saturday 19th March

On Saturday 19th March, once again Chingford C of E children rose to the occasion and put in excellent performances in the borough 1 mile cross country race on Chingford Plains.

Special congratulations to Stephanie (yr 4) who came 3rd out of around 200 girls and Mia (yr3) who placed 14th. Also to Patrick (yr6) who came 5th out of around 200 boys and Jack B (yr5) who placed 6th.

Furthermore, the girls 'A' team went on to take the bronze medal and the boys 'A' team won gold!

Around 42 schools are invited to this competition so we have performed incredibly well and the school is so proud of our runners and the wonderful families who came down to support on the day.
