Junior Library is transformed!
Tue 25 Jun 2013A team of volunteer workers from the Balfour Beatty Company recently came to the Junior site to refurbish the library. Inspired by the children's desire for a jungle themed environment, the team set to work following plans that required a patchwork elephant, a cobra, exotic birds, stuffed monkeys galore and a vast jungle canopy.
Ably assisted by a group of specially chosen pupils, the library was quickly transformed as you can see from the attached photographs. Year 6 pupil, Evie, described the transformation as, " Amazing - it's so different from other libraries." An impressed Jamie, also from Year 6, commented, "I thought it would be imposiible to get the changes done in one day. It was a great experience working under pressure."

Dog Week Report
Wed 12 Jun 2013This term the school is supporting The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Our aim is to raise £1500 which will go towards the cost of training a guide dog.
Our reward for raising this sum of money will enable us to support a puppy on its amazing journey to become a guide dog for someone with a visual impairment.
During the week commencing Monday 3rd June a number of events took place across the Infant and Junior sites aimed at educating the children about blindness and how dogs have become ‘man’s best friend’.
These events included visits from ‘Daisy’, a guide dog and her owner, two working police dogs and their handlers, plus a talk from a local veterinarian on dog care.
Several groups of children raised money by selling such things as ‘dog biscuit’ snacks at playtime and raffling a doggie hamper. In addition, Miss Curtis, from the Junior site, organised a very successful sponsored dog walk on Chingford Plain.
The week culminated in a non-uniform ‘Silly Shirt Day’. So far we have raised over £1500!

Pupils Praise Professor
Mon 10 Jun 2013Paul Curzon, Professor of Computer Science in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, at Queen Mary, University of London, visited Chingford C of E Junior School on Monday 10th June to give a talk to Year 6 pupils about Artificial Intelligence.
Prof. Curzon presented a 2 hour workshop to the children which covered indepth topics such as what is intelligence and can machines think or is intelligence something only humans have? The children also had fun playing with computerised toys including a voice sensitive parrot and a robot vacuum cleaner.
Enthused pupil, George, described the lesson as, 'Really fascinating - I really enjoyed the part of the talk that covered optical illusions and how the brain can be easily tricked."
Deputy Headteacher commented, 'Professor Curzon has been a regular visitor to the school over the past few years. His talks are always well received and thought provoking.'
The attached image shows Prof. Curzon seated with some of the equipment he brought in to school to support his talk on artificial intelligence.
