  • Our trip to City Hall

    Wed 20 Nov 2024 HN

On Monday the 18th November the RRS school council went to the City hall to learn more about the Mayor of London and what he does for us . We also found out about the history of London and how it became what it is today. We found out that London is the most Eco friendly of the major cities.

William from year 6 said "I thought this was one of the best trips I've been on it was very informative and I learnt so much from one day".

Indie from Year 6 said, 'We had a great guide called Richard who was very knowledgeable who had lots of facts about London and was also very kind'.

We were lucky enough to go on the cable car (unlike last year when the weather was too windy!) and we even saw a plane taking off from City airport.

Ella said “We saw some amazing views. We saw construction work on the new vehicle tunnel which is part of the mayor’s regeneration process".

And Anthony from year 6 had this to say "I loved the sights they were incredible I specifically liked seeing City airport and the super yacht".

  • Debating Competition at Bancroft's School

    Thu 14 Nov 2024

On Thursday evening, 9 Year 6 pupils attended a debating competition at Bancroft’s School. The children worked in teams of 3 to present their arguments for or against a particular motion against teams from other schools. Throughout the evening, our pupils were commended for articulating thoughtful, detailed and structured points. It was also noted by several judges that our children supported one another particularly well. Each team won at least one of their arguments and one of our teams (Indiana, Jonah and Samuel) won all three of theirs!

  • Sister Act at Chingford Foundation School

    Thu 14 Nov 2024

On Thursday 14th November, Year 6 visited Chingford Foundation School to enjoy their performance of Sister Act. They thoroughly enjoyed their experience and demonstrated excellent behaviour throughout. Here is one of the reviews written by Jack B and Mikayla.

CHINGFORD C OF E REVIEW ON FOUNDATION SISTER ACT PLAY!

THIS PLAY WAS AMAZING, WE LOVED IT. IT WAS VERY ENJOYABLE!

Some of the main characters were Deloris, Curtis and Mother Superior who spoke very clearly and played their part very well. Although the microphones were breaking up, the performers persevered throughout the play.

As a result of witnessing a crime, Deloris was put in a convent for her safety. She heard the choir singing and decided she needed to change things up. As a school, we really enjoyed the plot twist where Ricky/Curtis tries to kill Deloris but then suddenly a police officer appears out of the blue and handcuffs Curtis. As well as this, the costumes were stunning and realistic. The nun costumes in particular were amazing, they looked so realistic.

The most fantastic part of the whole show was the singing, it was impeccable and unbelievably amazing!

    Thank you for inviting us.

  • Cows stop Girls Cross-country race!

    Sat 09 Nov 2024

Huge congratulations to all the boys who raced on Chingford Plain this morning. It was the biggest turn out ever, with 266 boys racing! Unfortunately, the Longhorn cattle who graze there from April to November interrupted the race part way through. The front runners, including James S from Y5B who ultimately came 3rd out of all the competitors were clearly at the front of the field when the cattle were spooked and got in the middle of the racers. It was a scary moment!

The girls race was cancelled as a precaution. Although disappointing, this was clearly the wisest decision. The girls will now compete on Tuesday 17th December using Higham's Park Lake as their route.

Due to the presence of the cattle, some of the boys had to be re-routed and so it was impossible to judge the fastest teams. Huge congratulations to James S from Y5B for coming 3rd out of all the runners and very well done to everyone who entered for their fantastic sporting efforts!

  • Year 6 Class Assembly

    Thu 07 Nov 2024

Today, in front of their parents/carers Y6 performed a super class assembly. They had already performed it to the junior site children on Tuesday this week. They wrote it themselves and showcased the different learning that they had studied during Autumn 1.

It was lovely to see so many parents/carers and that they willingly tried to answer the quizzes/volunteer to participate when called upon to do so.

  • God and the Big Bang!

    Thu 07 Nov 2024

During RE lessons this term, Year 5 have been exploring the question; ‘Why do some people believe God exists?’

During this unit we have been learning about atheist, agnostic and theist viewpoints, particularly focusing on their beliefs about how the world was formed. To support their learning, the children had the opportunity to explore how science and faith can work together through the God and The Big Bang team from the University of Durham and the Diocese of Manchester.

Some of the fantastic questions the children asked were:

    • Is God a natural or mental being?
    • How was God created?
    • Why is the world so complicated?
    • Is there life on other planets?
    • What started life and evolution?
    • What were we made for?

  • Stay and Play Maths Games

    Fri 01 Nov 2024

Thank you to all the parents/carers who joined us from Y3/4 and Y5/6 this week to play Maths Games with their children. The aim of the sessions was to introduce parents/carers to some games that they can play at home to help children's mathematical understanding and fluency with number knowledge. It is important that parents/carers and pupils recognise that we learn more when we step out of our comfort zone to tackle something more challenging. Miss Bruford and Mrs McMurray were reflecting on some research conducted by James Nottingham about "The Learning Pit". This describes the learning process that occurs when we overcome challenges, developing key skills including persistence, resilience and recall, and reaping better long-term rewards. While it’s tempting to stay in our comfort zones, it’s crucial to push ourselves and take on something more challenging. It can lead to better learning, a vital step to achieving our goals. We hope that you enjoyed the activities and that you and your child found yourselves feeling challenged, curious, enthused and possibly spent a moment or two in the 'pit of uncertainty' on the journey to a 'eureka!' moment.

We know that some of you are keen to continue solving one or two of the problems/puzzles, so here are the links to each of the tasks, games and challenges used throughout the morning. By following each link there are further details about each task, a few clues to point you in the right direction, possible solutions and, in some cases, an interactive version of the task.
