Reception's trip to Pimp Hall
Wed 30 Oct 2024Reception had their first school trip this week. They very sensibly walked to Pimp Hall Nature Reserve. Their teachers were very proud of their excellent behaviour and focus.
This hidden gem in Chingford sits at the top of Friday Hill and is accessed via Kings Road, E4. For such a small site, it offers a great range of wildlife habitats, including meadows, scrub and a pond.
In 2015, the reserve was given funding to create a large, colourful wildflower meadow. This has since flourished. There is also a small pond by the railway, and the area attracts a variety of butterflies, dragonflies and dragonflies. Birds include song thrush, blackcap, chiffchaff and blue tit.
There is also a historic dovecote, which used to house doves, pigeons, and other small birds. The reserve is on the former land of the C16th Pimps Hall, gardens and farm - hence its name.
While they were there they even rescued a baby hedgehog that they subsequently named Harry!

Mon 28 Oct 2024We were delighted to welcome everyone back for the start of the second half of the Autumn term this morning with the news that Finlay from Y4 EH, had won the Scouts District Chess Championship in the under 10's category! Finlay was unbeaten in all his games and even won some games against some players who were over 10 year old! He was joined by Alfie from Y5 who came second in the Championship!
Finlay and Alfie thanked Mr Osbourne for introducing them to the rules of chess and said that our lunchtime chess matches have helped them to practice and improve their game to this high standard!
Very well done to both boys!

Waltham Forest Yr 5 & Yr 6 Girls’ 7-a-side Football Tournament
Fri 04 Oct 2024C of E fielded two teams in today’s tournament at Goals, South Chingford.
The ‘B’ team put in some sterling performances displaying a great deal of resilience and tenacity in the league stage of the tournament but just missed out on qualifying for the later stages of the competition.
The ‘A’ team managed to win all their league games and advanced with ease through the quarter finals and semi final stages of the competition to earn a spot in the final.
The final was a 3 way affair involving ‘round robin’ matches between C of E, Ainslie Wood and St Mary’s RC.The ‘A’ team, made up of predominantly Year 5 players, ran out of steam in the final losing both of their games. However, to finish third in a competition that involved 36 teams is no mean achievement and the players were proud to take home with them some very well-earned bronze medals.

DIY Volunteers needed!
Fri 20 Sep 2024Can you spare even an hour on Saturday 5th October to help us make the infant site as lovely as possible?
Many hands make light work!
We have been alternating improving both sites and it is the turn of the infant site!
If you can help, please let either school office know, or email Jon Reidy , who is kindly co-ordinating the day for us: jonreidy@gmail.com
We are focussing on washing, planting, and gardening in general, so please come armed with clippers, jet washers, forks, spades, loppers, ladders, secateurs, hedge-clippers to help! If you are unable to help on the day we would really appreciate donations of bedding plants or cash donations to buy plants as a previous DIY day created a lovely flower bed in the Y1/2 playground and we would love to plant it fully! We are especially looking for:
- Curry plant (Helichrysum italicum)
- Anethum graveolens (dill)
- Camomile
- Lamb's ears (Stachys byzantina) ...
- Buddleia.
- Lavender
- Mock orange (Philadelphus)
- Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
We will be there from 9am to 3pm. Come when you can! We are providing a sandwich lunch for those who can stay across the day! Children are welcome although they have to be supervised!
Hope to see lots of you on the day!
Many thanks,
Lindsey Lampard

What a whopper!
Thu 19 Sep 2024Have you ever seen such a large pumpkin? When the current Y4 children were in Y3 they grew this enormous pumpkin at the allotment with the help of Ann and the allotment team! Tracey, our school cook is going to experiment with different pumpkin recipes! Please give her some suggestions of what she can cook as it is so large it will serve lots of ideas!
