Tue 18 Sep 2012We were contacted by Antony Everett from The Car Buying Company, 107 Station Road recently because they had purchased an Olympic torch, signed by Lord Sebastian Coe, and wondered if we would like to bring along a group of children to have their photograph taken, holding said torch.

Disney Star Naomi Scott Thrills Pupils
Tue 15 May 2012Naomi Scott, star of the Disney movie 'Lemonade Mouth' and Sky TV's blockbuster sci-fi series 'Terra Nova', recently visited the Junior School to talk to the children about her career and Christian faith. She came along with the 'Frantic' team, a group of children workers from The Bridge Church in Woodford.
Year 6 pupil, Sofia, reports:
An up and coming star of the silver screen, Naomi amazingly found time to come and visit the pupils at our school. We are an extremely lucky school to experience visits from well known celebrities. Last week Michael Copp from 'The Apprentice' visited us and not so long ago we met West Ham footballer, Jordan Spence.Naomi, Jordan Spence's girlfriend, gave us some tips about achieving your ambitions in life and told us how she became a star. The first great step forward in her acting career was in 2011 when she was cast as Mo Banjaree in the hit Disney film, 'Lemonade Mouth'. She had been spotted singing in her church and on a Youtube clip and soon found herself jetting off to Los Angeles! That same year, she was cast as Maddy Shannon, in the Steven Spielberg produced science fiction series 'Terra Nova' which ran on Sky 1.
Some interesting facts that not many people know about Naomi is that she is half Gujarati Indian and half British. Her father and mother run a church in Woodford.
Another Year 6 pupil, Ugur, adds his thoughts on Naomi's visit:
Naomi told us she attended a nearby secondary school, Davenant Foundation, which a number of Year 6 pupils will be transfering to in September. She said it was a great school and told us about some of the teachers there.Naomi kindly answered a series of questions during a Q&A session and spoke passionately about her belief in God and the importance of her family.
During her visit the Frantic team set up a challenge which meant Naomi had to go into a wind machine cubicle and catch as many bits of sponge as she could in one minute. Year 6 teacher, Miss Roberts, joined in the fun. Both dressed up in clown costumes. Needless to say, Miss Roberts lost!
We also got to watch a trailer of Terra Nova and a Youtube video of Naomi singing 'She’s so gone' one of the songs from the Lemonade Mouth movie.
With a photographer from the local press snapping away, Naomi said her goodbyes leaving us with great memories and some Lemonade Mouth goodies.

The Apprentice Star goes back to School
Tue 08 May 2012Fresh from being fired by Lord Sugar in the hit tv series 'The Apprentice', contestant Michael Copp recently found time to visit the school to talk to the children about his time on the show and how he has overcome his difficulties with dyslexia.
Michael answered a series of questions from the children revealing how much he respects Lord Sugar and that behind the scenes he is actually good friends with the other contestants.
Michael was signed up for the show following an on line application and a number of gruelling interviews. He was ecstatic when told he had been chosen to appear in the series which he has watched for years. Although eliminated early on, Michael is enjoying the remaining episodes but was tight lipped about the outcomes of some of the pre-recorded shows that have yet to hit the screens.
The Apprentice star urged children struggling with dyslexia to not let the disability prevent them from fulfilling their goals. Quoting his own experiences at school, Michael encouraged the children to persevere with their work and not to get too down even if they think they are falling behind their classmates. "Work hard", he advised, "and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve."
The young businessman who owns a kitchen furniture factory looks set for a bright future even though he faced those daunting words from Lord Sugar, "You're fired!"

Rollapuluza Fun
Thu 29 Mar 2012Rollapuluza came to Chingford C of E Juniors recently. The static cycle speed races were part of our Sport Relief Day celebrations which helped to raise over £300 for the charity. Year 5 pupil, Arty, described the activity as a ' fun event, even though my legs ached because I was pedalling so fast!'
The boy and girl winners in each year group went onto represent the school in a race off against other schools at Leyton Orient's football ground. Our team finished 3rd overall with Year 6 student, Joash, being crowned overall champion for cycling faster than anyone else.

Lifeguards Teach Beach Safety
Tue 27 Mar 2012Two lifeguards from the Royal National Lifeboat Institute have visited the school to talk to the children about beach safety. Children from towns and cities are most at risk of getting into difficulty along our coastline so the RNLI are targetting schools in these areas with a programme designed to acquaint children with the dangers associated with a day at the seaside. The school's Junior Accident Prevention Officer, Eleni, described the sessions as "interesting" adding, " We learnt about things such as the meaning of flags, how to avoid getting sun burn and how to react if you're caught in a rip tide."
The lifeguards also brought along with them their truck which they use to patrol the beach.

Orient Stars Meet 6B
Mon 27 Feb 2012Pupils from Class 6B recently spent an afternoon with Orient stars Kevin Lisbie and Matt Spring as part of the local club's 'Adopt a Player' scheme. Matt, who visited us earlier in the school year, and Kevin, who once scored a hat trick against Liverpool, spent time having a kick-about with the pupils as well as finding time to answer questions and sign autographs. The club also provided the school with 25 pairs of tickets for the home game against Walsall. Teacher Julie Roberts praised the players saying, "Nothing was too much for them. They seemed to enjoy the kick-about as much as the kids!"
Year 6 student, Lewis, was just as impressed describing Matt and Kevin as '"wicked!"
The children who received the match tickets for the game against Walsall all said they had a great time and were proud that the the two players, along with Jonathan Tehoue, who visited us earlier in the year, all featured in the game.
Once again, a big thank you to Howard Gould, the O's Development Coach, for organising the visit.
