• Rabbi talks to Year 4 pupils

  Rabbi Brandman from the Chabad Lubavitch Synagogue in Buckhurst Hill recently visited the school to talk to our Year 4 pupils about Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs. Bar Mitzvah is a Jewish coming of age ritual for boys. Bat Mitzvah is a Jewish coming of age ritual for girls.

  Year 4 pupil, Ruby, commented, "Rabbi Brandman brought in a lot of things to show us  including a prayer shawl called a tallit and a mezuzah which is a case holding Jewish scriptures which  Jewish people put on their doors."

  Ruby added that the talk was "fun" and "educational".

  

• Year 4 Kurling Event

  On Tuesday 5th February, some year 4 kurlers attended this inaugural event at Leytonstone Leisure Centre. A big thank you to Mr Bloomfield, the mini bus driver for the day, for getting us there!

   

  

• Candlemas Service

  Year 4 and Year 5 pupils recently took part in a Candlemas service held at the Parish church.Candlemas is celebrated on the 2nd day of February of each year. The day is celebrated as a day of renewal, hope, and purification.

• Yr2 Visit to Suntrap Field Study Centre

  Year 2 recently spent a fascinating day at the Suntrap Field Study Centre in Epping Forest as part of their science work on habitats. The children ventured into the forest looking at the habitats of  minibeasts.

  On their return to Suntrap they got to look at some exotic animals from habitats elsewhere in the world which included a corn snake, salamander, giant cockroach and stick insects.

  

• Active Maths & Literacy Festival

  On Thursday 24th January, some year 4 children attended this festival at the Peter May centre. Organising the maths and literacy activities were children from Chingford Foundation School as well as some of our own leaders from year 5/6 who’ve been working hard with Anne Rowland to create activities. The idea was for the children to practice their skills in an active way and making learning fun and physical.

  

• Swimming Gala

  On Thursday, 20 children from Y5 and Y6 took part in the borough swimming gala at the Feel Good Centre. The competition was tough but we made it through to 8 of the 11 finals and Joe C won a bronze for front crawl and has been subsequently invited to trial for Gators! Well done everyone!

  

• Stay & Play Maths Mornings

  It was great to see so many parents,  carers and grandparents come into school this week to spend time with the children playing maths games. Year 5 pupil, Isabel, commented, "It was great fun teaching the adults to play maths games. I managed to beat my dad lots of times playing a game called 'Dicey Operations'!'
